Who would you take your zed to for internal engine surgery?

So who are the tried and tested BEST engineers for doing internal engine work on the zed? This means that you take your zed to their workshop and they do all the work there and dont farm some of the work out to others.

It would be best to hear from you guys who have first hand experience and not "my mate had an engine done etc".

cheers guys your input is much appreciated

steve

well, i'd do mine myself! ;) (tho thats not much use to you!)

just 1 point: we do all the mecanical work ourselves (obviously, being a garage!) but sub out all the engineering work, ie cyl reboring, head resurfacing etc. which is the norm in the motor trade.

i have sent you all the info turkey.

To be honest my findings in this country regarding getting decent service out of engineering or "specialists" has come to zero. all the claimed specialists i wouldent touch with a barge poll Some of the engineering firms are good, but i think your on an uphill struggle here. Good luck and if you find somehwere decent let us know lol.

paul,

even though you send out some parts for the skimming etc, i guess you still put the engine back together yourselves? what i mean is that you dont just send the engine off to someone else and then refit it after they have rebuilt it...do you?

warren,

cheers for the info on your work, should be a good guide at least. It does seem difficult to find specialists, especially up here in the NE.

cheers

steve

Turkey,

As Paul C ive done the job myself, However where rebores,Crank regrinds, Head Skimming is concerned find a Automotive engineering machinists who specialises in engine components and knows the relevant tolerances for the work to be done but you specify Pistons, rings,Camshaft types if reqd.

Removal of Power unit disassembly, reassembly is best done by someone who has carried out the work on the ZX (both for Quality and cost reasons)

Best of luck

Mike

oh yea, all the rebuilding is done by us. just when you said you wanted a co. to do ALL work in house, i thought id let you know it doesnt happen that way.

but any competent garage should be able to remove, strip & rebuild. just not many will have the machining tools to do everything.

like you say tho. the biggest problem is actually finding a competent one!

phil at c&s wood over near astley manchester, i know of 1 engine that he has rebuilt , the lad's shit hot and he also has a z himself which is kind of comforting.

Only two I would EVER let do my engine,is LATZ or SE!

SE...why? Coz I have spent thousands down there and they sorted my car out.

Latz...why? Coz he knows WTF he's talkin' about and he is a partner in GPS, say no more! Best company for tuning IMO in this country! Period! End of story! ;)

there is no substitute for experience and GPS are doing a few high spec Z engines at the moment so try them.
