Right going to stick my head out here, you guy is not a zed specialist and as such has made some basic errors, ( temp sensor connection issue is well known)

Unless he has ConZult diagnostic which I doubt it is unlikely he set the engine up correctly after the belt was changed such as timing, tps, idle control etc, and £600 for a non specialist that sent the car out with the temp sensor issue just about spells out he found it hard and charged you for too many hours or maybe not.

Bare in mind, a cambelt change is a while you wait job on a 300zx, seriously whilst you wait, no mystery just get it done and set up correctly and out 3.5 hours max.

Why would you spend more money than going to a dedicated 300zx specialist, get an incomplete job done and then still say he is pucker ??

I dare say he may well be a great Cosworth guy but the 300zx is way different.

Jeff

To be fair my local garage tried to charge me £7-800, and I wouldn't trust my car with them anyways so I did it myself, and my engine is fine.

Exactly right bud, they over price it because they are scared of it, worse is they do not have the correct knowledge and diagnostic / set up equipment.

Fair comments, I had all the idlers and bearings changed also as they were all rusty. There was also damage to a few parts due to a previous person having a go at removing parts, gave up and reassembled. It started as a simple £310 change and then had to add on for the extra components that needed to be replaced. I will be using a specialist for future issues....I promise!

I also know that the cosworth is different, I'm not that much of a car noob, I was just saying that he is very good with sports like cars and I trust him.

Well ill be, someone on my journal thread posted a picture of the two sensors on top of the water pipe in front of the engine. Removed them, cleaned a bit, re applied and then boom... the radiator (front corner) stopped, the engine temp went up slower instead within 30 seconds and settled properly, the motor ran perfectly and the issues are all resolved. Thank you again, I needed some good luck and great advise before I lost my mind. Cheers guys. Is it weird to say I love you?

Well I never. :thumbup1::thumbup1:

I have a local mechanic who I've known for years. He knows his apples, is incredibly thorough and he's worked on a variety of exotic cars over the years with no issues whatsoever.

And I still travelled to Lee Dent in Shrewsbury to have my timing belt done! Honestly Steve, I can't stress enough how much it's worth it to use someone with intimate knowledge of these cars, regardless of how expensive or inconvenient the journey may be. :thumbup1:

And as I have said I will in future if the problems dictate, travelling is not an issue, money is not really an issue and Shrewsbury and Bristol are only a handful of miles for me as I live in the middle. At no point have I disagreed with seeing a specialist for issues with the car. I am nearly 40 and I'm a public School teacher at one of the most prestigious boarding schools in the country and reckon I have a fair bit of common sense and understanding. I know what I need to do. I do feel like most who are posting are treating the fact I had work done by someone else other the countries top specialists like its the end of the world...I have never said in the handful of posts that I wont see someone who knows theses cars and I have had the issue solved which was only a rusty connector. Thank you again for all comments and your help, I kid you not if it wasn't for you guys I would still be scratching my head and teh car would be dormant on the doorstep but please can we leave it now about using someone else instead of the recommended. When the car blows up because of poor CAM BELT work, you can say I told you so but until then I am happy that the problem was fixed and that it was a slight oversight which was solved within 24hrs!!!

Lol everyone's biting your head off Steve.

By all means use your mechanic for odd jobs, idk like replacing bushings or relocating the battery etc... But as others have said, these are pretty hard cars to work on and technical jobs and jobs dictating the health of car would be beneficial to be done by a specialist for piece of mind if nothing else. And they may spot something else who knows that they can fix...

Lol at some of these posts, I think the main thing to remember with any of the non zed specialist mechanics, its not necessarily their ability as a mechanic in question, but lack of diagnostic software to be able to set one up.

Intimate knowledge is key, for indepth engine work and setting up and tuning, even Nissan garages dont have the mechanics anymore who have ever worked on one or know where to start.

Consult, datascan, scantech, although can be used for other Nissans, this software seems to be the norm for our cars and will aid in fault finding no end. You can set a TPS with a multimeter, but no way could you guess the idle air control valve percentage without one of these :thumbup1:

Glad you found the issue and hopefully now some problem free zedding
