Just tested the keyless entry unit on my 95 (I presume series 4?) as per FSM and it's not working properly, boot release isn't working.

I may at some point upgrade to a proper thatcham alarm, but in the mean time, anyone know of one of these knocking about?

(Well I suppose now I think of it the fob button might not be working but I can't think of a way to test that so unit it is )

Unless you fitted an actuator for the boot yourself i dont believe a zed ever came with it as standard. Jaikai fitted one to his and worked off a key fob.

Definitely got one, shorted two pins and it worked! And it's in the fsm

Its in the fsm for a convertible, ive not seen another zed with boot actuator as standard, unless anyone else has one lol i dont know about.

One of my previous zeds also had the factory central locking and the boot pop worked fine.

Yea alright rub it in :tt2:

Yea alright rub it in :tt2:

Lol, didn't mean to rub it in I was just backing you up to agree that they did actually come from the factory with the remote boot release.

Not sure if the 94 and 95 ones are different actually. The fob in that article I linked has an alarm button, whereas mine has a light button, though the fsm talks about both so not sure what that means. And it says pin two should be positive for the boot release, but it was pin three for me. Shorting the connections it said to worked though

Well you learn something new everyday lol, i had to fit one to mine as there wasnt one and never before seen a question asked about it, so thanks for that Chris, hope you get it sorted :thumbup1:

Just to add in, after my expensive Clifford alarm decided to stop working as a short measure I bought an Alarm unit off Ebay, paid extra for the boot solenoid and additional handle micro switches to make it comfort ( keyless ) opening when it senses the fob in your pocket.

The unit was £30 with the additional bits coming in at £12, so total £42 ! when I installed it the quality was first class, it worked first time and after 5 years of use showed no signs of failing when I sold the car, the insurance company were fine with the make and model.

Expensive alarm units are just that expensive ! no need to pay £500 + for Clifford`s these days, and at these prices if you alarm fails just rip it out and fit one of these, the boot release was my favourite bit, somewhat eclipsed by modern cars now with powered tail gates etc. but great at the time.

Yea I'm curious as to how much difference they actually make the insurance anyway

Nah you don't want that pile of old junk mate, just tear it out and send the control unit along to me, there's a good chap :devil2:

  • Author

Actually meant to post that in your thread, oops :wheelchair:

  • Author

Ok haven't felt this stupid in a while, you just need to hold the button down for two seconds for the boot release. So it's working fine

  • Author

In my defence if you hold the lock button for 2 seconds the panic alarm goes off so pleased I wasn't just holding buttons randomly!

Hi Guys, sorry to Hijack - where is the control box for the remote?.. I only have the ecu under the passenger footwell

Have a look at the service manual? I think it only mentions the ecu in the footwell, seem to remember that's the only thing it mentions with regards to fault finding so maybe that is the receiver? Seems a bit odd though...

Factory fitted or aftermarket? The US (LHD) '96 FSM has the factory fitted Keyless Entry Module fitted along with the ECU under the

passenger footwell carpet (click --> el-271.pdf) and looks like this:

That's what he's got I think, he's asking if there's a separate receiver for the remote signal
