So, I've done it... After toying with the idea for a while now, I've just registered for next years Ironman UK triathlon.

For those that don't know the event it consists of a 2.4mile open water swim, 112mile bike course and finishes with a full 26.2mile marathon run at the end. I did this event back in 2014 but literally haven't done any fitness since (probably because I was sick of the sight of my bike by the time I finished it!!)

So here goes, the training starts now. I completed it in 15hrs last time so that was my line in the sand... I aim to beat this next year!

My PT does Ironman - looks like hell to me! lol

Trust me it is.... and so is the preparation too

Good luck and keep us all posted. I've been toying with doing a Marathon myself but I don't think il ever actually do it lol.

Tough guy was about as tough as I would go. I'm too lazy to train for marathons...

But you go mate, and enjoy yourself ;)

Thanks guys! Not a great start after just registering today.... My chain snapped on my way home from work!

Happens. Have you split that chain? These chains these days don't like it and you should use a link. Christ knows why. BMX chains are still built the old way and can be split without ill effect.

Nah, I think its probably just been shocked at me riding to work this week. Its been in the shed for 2 years since the last Ironman. Ah well, a trip to the bike shop tomorrow needed.

I started commuting to work on it this week so after sitting for that length of time and then doing 120 miles its obviously not been able to cope:lol:

Diagnosis: officially bonkers!

:thumbup1:

Yup - but good luck mate....!

And if you're doing it for charity, please do feel free to post up sponsorship details at the appropriate time...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Basically, yes

I've dropped it off at the bike shop now anyway for a full service.

I'm most likely going to buy a 2nd bike after I sell my mountain bike as my road bike is getting quite old and I'll be commuting on it all through the winter. Just need to get saving for that now! Anyway, after washing the Z ahead of Oulton park tomorrow, I'm off for a run!

So week 1 of my training is done, not a bad start in the end. Managed to knock up just over 100miles on the bike and 15miles running.

I took part in the Wigan 10k this morning as well and managed to achieve it in 47mins 1sec which is much better than I expected as I've not done anything over 4miles in over 2 years

Keep at it bud, I'm down to the 21s for 5k now but haven't done a 10k yet. Kinda what to break 20 first, dunno why lol.

That's not a bad time that, nice one. I remember back when I was 18, I could do a 10k in 37mins.... Those days are long gone now though lol!

im gonna get back into learning to swim to do a sprint tri, im already a runner running for sunderland harriers, i commute quite a lot on my bike around 50 miles a week in total, i have friends who have done iron mans and they all did the same, spent time away from any kind of training for some time lol

running wise im ok, 5k pb of 20:18, 10k pb of 43:17 and half time of 1:44:44

bike wise i usally average 16mph over 6.4 miles on my commute to work, i cycle as a session all the time as in hiit, have my fast parts, power parts, easy gear faster peddling parts to get my heart rate up and obviously my recovery parts lol

i have a problem with swimming as i choked on a sweet as a kid and had to be revivied, that feeling haunts me and i feel the same as im trying to swim so the water scares the shit out of me lol

keep us updated on the training mate, im just starting brick sessions and that is the most brutal thing ive ever done

running wise the xc season has just started and i love xc always come out of the season a stronger road runner

Cool pics!

I really need to save up for a new road bike, mines pretty old now and if I'm going to be using it for commuting over the winter I should imagine it'll be pretty tired by the summer. My commutes just over 20 miles a day so I'll be doing 100 miles just from commuting. Its good as I see it as a free training session as it takes as long to get to work in the car

seems everything i do these days is training but i love it, 3 years ago i couldnt run a bath and was well over 14 stone. i love this new lifestyle but couldnt even imagine the time and effort that goes into an ironman, hats off to you like

and got my bike through the cyclescheme, cheapest way to do it like, had it just over a year and rode it through the winter with no problems

Mine was from the cycle to work scheme back in 2007/8! Do they still have a maximum voucher of £1000 for them do you know?

Wanting a decent carbon bike this time

yeah 1000 pound max, have a look at ribble bikes, they are knocking some good decent carbon bikes out cheap. you can also use the voucher and add to the price of a bike yourself? will save ya a few quid or get an older model?
