Finally, I have found the reason for my intermittent fault with my Dim-Dip lighting.

After what has been a painstaking search of the wiring, I tracked the problem down to a corroded connection (what a surprise) to the Dim-Dip unit itself.

One wire was barely connected, and fell off when I touched it, and another did not need much encouragement to break off either.

Very nice work there sir........ looks like new......

Thanks Russ, :thumbup1:

Even gave the Dim-Dip box itself a little wash and brush up.

Question... What should I treat the connectors and box with so as to protect it from the elements?

I'm tempted to brush on some Dielectric grease to prevent a recurrence of the corrosion.

Some photo's of the Dim-Dip and main beam.

Difficult to capture the real difference head on, as my camera could not cope with the main beam brightness.

As for the close ups, the difference was significant.

So chuffed.

Coated the connections in Dielectric grease prior to re fitting, should be good for another 24 years!

Not only has my electrical repair work restored the function of my Dim-Dip, it has transformed the brightness of my dipped beam immeasurably!

Unbelievably bright, I can now really appreciate my recent head light refurb.

Must have been suffering from poor connections throughout for a while.

Can't help but notice, but since I have sorted my dipped beam, my side lights look very yellow by comparison.

Any suggestions as to how I can bring them up to the same white brightness?

T10 fitment you need something like this, if the length fits in is a word of caution !!

Loads of white bulbs on ebay but are they white and not a hint of blue, you take a chance on this and also brightness.

If you can put in a reverse light bulb holder and the length is there you can use these 80w ones and i know these are damn bright as i have these in my kerb lights

Cheers Phutumsch.. :thumbup1:

I will pull one of my sidelights tomorrow and measure the depth to see if the T10 LED will fit.

Will I need to be concerned about heat if they are close to the lense?

If it's too close to the lens it's not heat you need to worry about because the dispersion of light will not be great.

What about relocating sidelights to the indicators - food for thought perhaps.

There are many many T10 bulbs that are shorter but as i've said it's hit and miss on the brightness and the whiteness, ideally you want 5000k but sellers put owt in their description !!

Not sure if I have ordered the right ones mind, but went with these.

Should be here tomorrow.

On a separate note..

When driving to work this morning, I had people flash me thinking I was on high beam!:lol:

My dipped beam is so bright now, remarkable difference. :nana2:(yes, they are set to the right height before anyone asks .)

If it dry tomorrow night I shall be venturing out into the country for a real test. :shuriken:

Side light bulbs finally arrived today, problem is, I think they are too bright.

I was hoping to match the brightness with the headlights, but looks like I have gone too far the other way.

Or is that just the consequence of pairing LED with Filament?

Thoughts..

I just can't settle with the current LED bulbs, just too Blue!

I think if they had been a pure white I would have been happy.

Popped in some filament bulbs in with a higher wattage just to see the difference, better, but still not happy.

Still too yellowy.

I did warn you about the blueyness you can get with an led type bulb, on revisiting this i was going to say you can fit a resistor in line and this will drop the brightness but this will not help remove the blue you now have, you're up at about 8000k with those.

Buy some more would be my advice but i've had all this 'problem'with the 501 bulbs previously.

Something like this you could chance, i notice the bulb does come in ice blue in the drop down, so i would hope that 6000k option is exactly that !!

Can I suggest Cree bulbs, they are pure white, not a hint of blue anywhere, I have found that they are more expensive than normal led bulbs, but I've fitted my whole car out with them and I think their fantastic.

As you say, it does seem to be a bit hit and miss mate.

Thanks for the link, I will have a peep.

In the mean time, I will fit some other LED bulbs that arrived yesterday. Fingers crossed.

Thanks mate.

These are supposedly CREE LED bulbs, but I have my doubts. Soooo Blue!
