Right I've decided when I get my Zed (v soon!), I'm gonna run a cheap car to and from work most days on 3rd party insurance, to keep Zed petrol costs and mileage down.

The mileage for two reasons - less wear & tear, holding value longer, and limited mileage for insurance. Keeps the wife sweet ;)

Trouble is, I'm with Adrian Flux at the moment 6 months through my policy, and they say I can't start a limited mileage policy part way through a year. WTF?! Why not? Is this a standard thing?

Also, what happens to your NCB if you change insurers mid-year? Will they allow the year to follow on with the new company. I mean, this can't be a rare occurrence - people don't always change their cars when their insurance runs out. And there's no guarantees your insurer will be the most competitive quote with your new car (Certainly not Ford Mondeo -> Import Zed :D :D , and yes thats a real Mondeo, not one of those Skyline frauds ;) )

Hope you knowledgeable people can help

And cheers to TonyC for using up his lunch hour today trying to find my house, and for the help and advice - will be in touch soon.

Thanks

Pete

How old is the Z you are looking at? If it is 10 years old or older you can get insured on Classic insurance which leaves your no claims free.

Phone round and ask some places for classic policy. Alot of them require you to have a second car too. If you are getting a Jap Z there are a few places who will do Jap Z's on classic.

Cheers Stu, yep it's a 1990 Import so the classic insurance sounds a good option!

What did you mean about the no claims?

Jap Z on classic insurance!!! That sounds good, can anyone reccomend a company that will do this? I have a 1990 ZXTT Jap import and pay over £800 pa with Tesco's and that's TPFT only. I had my previous weekend car on classis with Firebond Insurance, BMW 850I £300 pa fully comp!! As soon as I told them I had changed to the ZX they ran a mile, hence ended up with Tesco's.

Please let me know if anyone will do classic on a jap ZX.

Cheers

Glenn

Pete,

If you try get insurance on another car they will start you a new policy with 0 no clames because your current no-claimes is being used up on your Z. On classic insurance, it makes no difference how much no claimes you have because they dont use it. This means you can use your 5 years NCB or what ever you have on your 2nd car/run about.

Im not sure which companies do classic on a Jap Z. Lots do it on a UK Z but fewer do a Jap Z. Phone round and ask.
