i get very nervous about an engine rebuild, cos i hestitate whether the engine will still be weak. cos if oyu replace some parts then you just put extra strain on the other non-replaced parts of the engine. is this just paranoia? and i can think of a rebuild as nearly as good as a new engine?

cheers guys

After a rebuild your engine should be as close as new as possible.

Steve,

I thought yours had been rebuilt recently???

rebuilds depend on a few things:

1, the condition of the main components that are to be used again. if you've got a cracked block - youre stuffed (turkey!:D )

2, what you spend your money on, how far are you going to go on the rebuild? rebore & pistons or just hone & rings etc

3, the ability of the person rebuilding your engine!

but theres no reason why it shouldnt be as good as new (or very near to anyway).

timmy,

i didnt actually have a rebuild before. it was head gasket change, new turbos, new pipes lifters, but engine was not touched on the bottom half and top end was not rebuilt as such, at least thats how i undertand it now, the only new internal compnents were the lifters.

after having a good chat with smithy, it seems that a rebuild maybe the best way to go. i tihnk i will try and do a few upgrades to strengthen it up a bit.

cheers

steve

No.3 on Paul C's list is the most important thing.

It can be built with quality parts and be put together by a muppet...

10,000 miles on my rebuilt lump and still going strong despite a pasting twice a day!!! :D :D

Food for thought..

Robert.
