Well despite trying to get the zed back on the road (and it's ended up I need the decats rewelding to fit round the auto box so i've had to put that on hold this year and crack on with something more productive.

My other half works from home and it's meant that all my music gear has been stacked up and forgotten in the corner of the spare room which is frustrating.

I play bass, guitar and keyboard and i've been dying to get some tracks down but the room is tiny I have spare and it's been taken over by Shel.

I also want a better bathroom but the only room that's a better shape than the current one is the room she's in.

SO decided to build a garden office/music room for us both. I have a double plot so loads of room to build on.

I made a start on Friday and already i've got a couple of walls up and half the build.

Should hopefully have the rest of the framework and the two other windows in this week all being well then roof on next weekend.

Very exciting times :)

Spec is 3.8m deep, 7.2m wide. My room is 4.2m wide and Shel's office 3m

Celotex in the walls and floor then an insulated kingspan composite roof.

Not decided on the cladding yet - possibly redwood, possibly shiplap/7" lap featherboard.

Some pics to show you where I am so far...

The concept sketch - note i'm not bothering with a door for the office just an internal to give shel some extra room for a sewing table

The jungle - all this will be landscaped. The borders have gone a bit mad and the lawnmower broke two weeks ago so have to sort that out too!

Shed moved and pallets cleared

Partway through finishing the base

Door and window in - unfortunately forgot to take into account the step for the door so has to come out and the top bar repositioned so allow for space. Second half of the office to be done this weekend....

More to come over the next week! :)

The way it's looking i'll be using 70mm celotex in the floor and walls and floating the floor on some rubber feet + same with the walls which should stop alot of the sound transmitting to the outside.

It won't be studio silent but it'll at least keep alot of the noise down plus where it's built is about 50 feet away from anyone's house (i live on a corner by a junction in the estate) and it's halfway up the plot behind the conservatory.

Looking good, I've only just finished mine although a few bits to do the finishing touches. It's great to have a separate space away from the house to work in

I can't wait buddy, all my musical gear is shoved up a wall in the spare room with no way of using it so counting the days till I can just walk in, pick up the axe and have a jam without having to climb round the back of stuff, put stuff away etc :hyper:

Fixed the door last night and also received my impact driver which is an absolute godsend! Should make the rest of the build a piece of cake :)

Managed to pick up 82 sheets of Kingstherm for £340 (factory seconds) on ebay yesterday ready for next week.

Big order going in today for all the OSB, etc :)

Excited!

Well I had a massive push over the weekend. Excuse the fact the front over the door is sagging slightly:

1. There's a massive overhand as two panels (seconds) were longer than the rest so have to cut them back and weigh more than a sofa each

2. I only had help to get the panels up on the roof for a couple of hours so didn't screw in the final upright strengthener joist in place next to the door which I need to fit to take the weight off the door section

Apart from that I LOVE this composite roofing stuff, 130mm insulation bonded to galvanised steel + rubber paint and a piece of cake to interlink then use the self tapping screws to screw straight into the joists.

The whole structure is massive (26.6m squared) and now very sturdy

Just some more OSB to fit on the outside, vapour control fabric, insulation and floor in permanently and i'm ready to start finishing it off but it's already nice and warm in the evenings and cool during the day

Well a bit more of an update - had weddings to attend and things to sort out unfortunately so not massive amounts of progress.

Finished all the walls/windows with some minor work i need to do re-inforcing by the door to take the weight of the roof.

Been back up on the roof and finished attaching it securely to the frame and joists. Unfortunately lost my angle grinder so can't cut the overhang back till that reappears then I can attach the trim.

So spent the rest of the time finishing off the floor and working on the wall insulation.

Managed to pick up a pair of really nice solid doors for the internal wall for free from the side of the road as well! :)

More to come as I get back on it this weekend...

Had the next delivery so spent a few days off work getting the outside about finished. A few little bits to do to finish around the windows, fit the corner trims pieces, etc but looking very much like a garden office.

I've built a matching gate and closed off the side as well. Just the roof to finish and then onto the interior....

Looking good mate, i used some timber to give me a finished edge, might be worth you looking at if youve only screwed the cladding on:thumbup1:

I've built the corners so there's room for a 30mm x 30mm timber to cover the ends. I haven't fitted them yet as i've got to decide on a finish for the wood yet and paint the hidden bits - already ahead of you buddy :D
