So time moves on and of the many, many things we love about living in Portugal one that stands out is the calm and quiet of the motorway`s, had a nice 280 mile round trip up to Lisbon a couple of weeks ago to watch Adele in Concert at the Meo Arena.

The journey was great,a little sun, smooth road surface and this >>>>>>

Even as we approached Lisbon bridge it was clear and fuss free >>>>>>>

Ok so the road has a toll but the entire journey cost was just 20 Euro`s a small cost to pay for smooth and well cared for road with little in the way of traffic, we even had a break at an idyllic rest spot, not your average Granada service stop, food was cheap and place set up for outside picnic`s.

in the picture check out the motorway and lack of cars, this is the main North / South route, so equivalent to the M1 in the UK.....roll on Summer eh!!

There is nothing to fear on our motorways Gary, there is so much traffic you cant get above 50 in places, for eg: i was on the M25 last saturday and it was a 40 limit from the A3 round to the M1 and sometimes we even moved and got to 40mph

Drove in France last summer from dieppe to near la Rochelle, and barely saw any cars the whole way. Went right past le mans as it was underway, and still nothing. Plus, not a single lane hogger! They all can't wait to pull back into the slow lane. Makes our roads look like a bad joke! If we didn't see a car for 10 minutes it wasn't unusual.

Went to Sweden last weekend and ime still in shock even today at the fantastic and clean road network there...even the public toilets at the rest places were as clean and even cleaner than some hotel toilets ive seen here. This place is filthy and disgusting compared to those pics jeff.

The motorways in Europe are so empty and in good shape because all the feckin Artics with their 2000ltr diesel storage tanks are in the uk speeding in lane 2 of our motorways! they should be made to stop at the docks and drop trailers or unload, or at least buy some of our diesel and contribute to the uk economy, I struggle almost on a daily basis to see what's good about the uk anymore.......
