Is there anyone here who had to upgrade/replace their seats for the leather option? How much did/should it cost?

Speak to Carisma in Colchester, Essex, they do the best retrims I have seen. They customise the seats to whatever you want. You have to book 2-3 months in advance to get in cause they are so busy. I haven't had my Z done there, but my previous BMW was done (doors/seats/gear gaitor). They done a top job, and it cost me about £1100. I haven't got their number but directory enquiries will have. (They even have a contract with Ferrari to do the re-trimming!!)

I'm thinking of going for the $575 kit (when i get some spare cash frown.gif ) It covers the Trims, Seats and handbreak Boot. The kit is leather facing for the seats and vinyl leather look for the trims. Getting it fitted might be another story, as some places may not want to fit a trim kit you bought yourself, but would prefer if they did the whole lot! I think Steve E's got a Katskin kit but not sure how he fitted it?

What did you go for in the end??.. I looked at that one you put me onto (thanks BTW) but was warned against due to the uprated ECU/ Dodgy UK gas situation. Tho it was damn sexy!!

I am looking at a 90 TT manual at the weekend, UK67k/Leather. Hope it rocks - its £5995 and if it is pukka then I am back in the land of the Zed!!.

Well...it just so happens Glen that I feel the information you were given (though designed to help you) was actually a little too apprehensive and put you off buying a real corker. I've had her looked at by a mechanic over there who really knows his stuff (paying him £600 for his expertise) and he tells me that the level of care it's received is exemplory. It's within his interest to make sure it's a good one cause I'm putting further business his way.

 

With that in mind... I couldn't bring myself to stand by and watch her go to anyone who couldn't appreciate her, so before she get's nabbed by someone else I'm having her brought over and borrowing the money needed to get her road legal.

 

If I can sell my NA by the time she comes over, I'll buy her for myself. If not... then someone over here is going to get one hell of a deal.

I'll be interested yes....but it has to be damn hot to grab my attention from the current leader.

I have had a quote of around £750 to have both front seats completly stripped and re-leathered.

I perhaps should have had a punt as I have have to admit, it is a fine 'n sexy automobile.

I was just told to be very wary about uprated ECU and I have to confess that the Zed as a motor car, is a *little* out of my league, technically speaking.

I guess 'advice' being what it is, is purely subjective anyway and whoever gave me the advice has sound reasons for it (and I thank them too smile.gif.. I must admit I would have bought it outright anyway if it was stock smile.gif

Not to worry mate, if it's out of your league then it's rocket science to me. I just know that if a car that age has been well cared for.. is mehcanically sound (to even 95%) and looks as stunning as this one... then the price which she can be aquired for is unbeatable. I could pay another 2k on a car in the local autotrader...and it still be of lesser quality, higher mileage, and still need work doing.

Heck...with the money saved on this one, I can quite happily budget for a year or 2 of maintenance that could arise.

 

If you hear of anyone interested in a non-turbo auto.... point them my way. wink.gif

Just to back up what was said on the import thread...... The point was that the fuel available over in Japan has a higher octane rating than we can get over here - the higher the octane, the less chance of detonation (which will KILL the engine frown.gif ). If the ecu has been tuned for a higher octane rating (ron) and is run on our standard Premium Unleaded (95 ron) it won't last long!!!! The ecu would have to be (and can be) changed to accomodate for this. This is the point that was being made - not that the car was a bad example.

Is it running with a MINES? As far as I'm aware they are the engine killers!

 

However, people are running them over here, you have to get in touch with someone/company to have them setup correctly. Nico knows I think, I'm sure Warren is running with a MINES ECU!

 

Which is why I looked into this, MINES is the bollox in Jap. land but if not setup to run correctly over here on our RONnie Barker fuel, they are not healthy.

 

JWT, only way to go!

Thanks for clearing that up Andy. It's also something I heard myself and voiced my concerns, but he assured me that it's not going to be a problem. If it is, he doesn't get his money... so I don't see that he's going to lead me up the garden path.

the only thing I wasn't too enthusiastic about was the age... but I've been looking around at alternatives in the UK and there really isn't anything better for the money.

 

I don't want to lose out simply because of uncertainty as to whether or not something might go wrong within a year or two. I've changed my car every year, and have never had a second hand one that hasn't needed some kind of attention before I've sold it on...so even if I spent 1 or 2k more... there's still no greater guarantee of the odds being any better.

To be honest Timmy I'm not sure. I'll be looking to upgrade so it doesn't really bother me. wink.gif

 

All I know is, this guy has taken a look at it...and is prepared to put his reputation on the line... which given the country he's in...and the kind of buisness he runs.. he's a much safer bet in my eyes than what we have over here. (as I'm not stretching to the expense of treating one of you lot to a free holiday... brilliant though you are) biggrin.gif
