What's your views on EBC brake pads. Are they better than the standard Nissan product. I heard recently they now recommend the red stuff for the zx tt, not the green stuff- has anyone else heard that?

Featured Replies

I heard that, but you may have read me saying that on another page. :D

I hear that the new red stuff pads called "RedStuff V2" now warm up quicker and so can be used for heavier or faster sports cars.

One thing that goes against RedStuff or GreenStuff is the price. £70 a go for pads.

I also hear that the GreenStuff pads even though better, dont last too long and for a Z will suffer brake fade on a track day :(. Hence why I think I hear they recomend RedStuff pads.

Stuart

I think it depends on whether your car is stock or has increased horsepower due to mods.

If it's the later then I think you will need better brakes,if not then I think standard pads are fine.

Cheers,

F.T.

I have standard pads on mine and I suffered brake fade a few weeks ago. I was driving fast, legaly, down country roads where I brake from higher speeds 60ish. I wasnt braking hard but the constant braking from fast speeds, made the brakes heat up, obviously over the designed temperature of the pads.

Just found what EBC say about Red Stuff

EBC's semi metallic Redstuff formulation is an excellent

compound for race and rally use with a medium lifetime

and a friction level of approximately 0.4 stable up to 750oC.

Redstuff is extremely kind to brake discs, can be used on or

off highway and has been a particular success on 4 wheel

drive road going vehicles such as the Impreza and Evo

range and has also found great success on heavier BMW

models such as M3/M5 and Audi range such as A4/A6.

This is why I think the Z will be more suited for the Red Stuff, because they are in the same speed class and weight class as the cars listed.

I spoke to EBC themselves as I was sent a set of pads for my Z that looked like they were off a mini

They said they recommend Red Stuff for Z's as they are heavy cars.

They replaced the incorrectly supplied Green Stuff ones with Red Stuff FOC.

They were great when warmed up but from cold they hardly stopped me at the bottom of the hill I live on even when only crawling.

It felt like the servo assistance had gone it was that bad.

The other problem was they only lasted me 2 months!!! :(

They have changed the compounds now though...

I had Porterfield R4 pads (front) on my Z and they were absolutely awesome. I think I paid around £100 but you can't beat their performance IMHO compared with the EBC Green or Red.

100% Ammar;) Been using them for 2 years, and will never try anything else!

For those who cant afford £100 or so on pads ;)

I e-mailed EBC asking which pads and they said Red Stuff for all 4 Wheel Drive and Turbo cars.

Stuart

I have been using the new red stuff pads for the last three months and they are fine from cold. Possibly some people are still selling the old ones.

Been using GreenStuff on my x-drilled Brembos for about a month now and they're OK - nothing more, nothing less. Will probably splash out on Porterfields when these are dead. Bleeding the system has made the biggest difference - have some real bite now.

Thank goodness for that!

Ha ha, cheers, think I will get some seeing as you've rated them so highly. Xpensive but when it comes to brakes I suppose its like the oil you put in your car-you shouldn't skimp!

Is anyone else having problems with the Whifbitz website??

Dave
