Silly question really but is this advisable/ a common mod?

Because it looks to me now I've got my plenum off that I've either been running coolant to my pcv valves or my turbo coolant lines have been bypassed. Can someone advise please CUs I'm a bit confused in this.

Pipe to the left had a pipe connecting to the underside of the plenum large pipe

Pipe still visible is open and not connected. Pipe to the right is open

I blew down the left pipe and dust came from the right pipe.

You can happily delete the coolant pipes under the plenum. You need the turbo coolant lines though, really. Research plenum water pipe bypass, plenty of information.

Yep had a good looking over that and removed alot of pipework

but these were left before I started. I'm wondering if they were left off cus of a cracked water way or something. If I re establish it I'm afraid it'll leak then I have to get the plenum off again.

So its not supposed to have been done. Not popular

Water feeds to the turbo`s are often problematic especially on ageing cars and to be honest have deleted a fair few myself with absolutely no problems, considering I have been doing this for near 20 years without a comeback is about as much proof as you need, all of the turbo re-builder`s I used confirmed that especially in standard guise they just heat the water up not cool the turbo`s!!

This paper was published by Garrett regarding water cooling of their turbos.

Yes very interesting seen that link before, now back to the real world on 25 year old turbo`s it is not going to matter, more important to keep the engine cooling system in good order and the temps down as much as possible, don`t need any more heat input.

Seeing as the engine has a zedworld sticker on it im guessing you done this one then jeffTT

As they have been disconnected anyway and i have had seemingly no problems i shall take them out entirely as that saves me alot of pipework and stress.

I know early renaults had oil cooled once upon a time so it cant be that bad.

The article to me seems like its for the masses that dont let the car cool down before they switch off.

Yes but since its already been oil only for at least as long as I've had it, I shall leave it like this.

I have spare turbos if the worst happens :D

Don`t worry they will be fine, its the difference between theory and real life, never had a turbo fail from over heat yet, seen as many zeds before me had the same water delete done at SE Nissan and the like its kinda proven.

The pipe on the left was connected to my pcv valve. Was it supposed to be?

Pcv valve is large size compared to the water pipe so not sure what you mean, any more pics?

See the pic below with the large pipe disconnected from the pcv.

Hang on ive confused myself. It was a coolant line from the turbo to the coolant port next to the pcv.

I cant remember what i did with the pcv pipe now as ive removed and rerouted alot. Can i leave the valves in and they not leak outwards, Pressure should hold them shut surely

Thanks, that does help alot.

When i get my central gasket ill start to put it together. If and when i get stuck ill post a pic asking what goes where again.

Ive got 3 blocked pipes off the heater core (that i assume went to the turbos) and lots of dead pipe left in the bay thats confusing me.

Ill squirt some water down one pipes i dont know and see where it comes out.

Great, these pictures are what ive been working with, the pipes still vanish behind covers though.

I think i can get it sorted now.
