Riding up the M11 last night, approaching Stansted, and on one of the road crossing bridges, i spot someone on the wrong side of the railings, hanging over the southbound carriageway, looking like they were ready to take a plunge.

 

i hit the phone button on my scala, voice dial 999, and pull over the hard shoulder about 1/4 to 1/2 mile further up.

 

the operator answers, puts me through to the police, and it just rings, and rings, and rings.

the operator comes back on, apologises,,and says she will try another number, and it rings, and rings, and rings.

i spot an ambulance on blues going southbound during this time.

the operator comes back on, apologises again, and says, she will try yet another line, so i tell her that hopefully its not too late, as i just saw an ambulance going that way...., she apologises again, and then it rings, and rings, and rings.

 

she comes back on again, and says she will find some other numbers to try, while its still ringing, ringing, but then eventually it gets answered

 

once they took the details, the police handler says, ah, i think we might have that reported already, but i dont really know, so i will log it for you..

 

wtf? glad it wasnt me on the sharp end of a life threatening situation!!

Scary eh, my daughter was stopped by two police officers with my grandchild after coming back from a doctor's appointment. They quizzed her for sometime, somewhat aggressively on why the little girl was not in school, despite my daughter explaining they had been to the doctors, they called the school to confirm the absence report, all the time my granddaughter was terrified and kept saying we have done nothing. I have lived in a 3rd world country for many years and experienced corrupt and incompetent policing and have always defended our bobbies, however it's starting to show now the ineptitude and arrogance of certain members of the force. Sign of the times eh, Groover, you are most likely spot on. Easy pickings and keeps the boxes ticked and the funds rolling in.

That's scary Craig. Isis attacking our cities will have time to kill and run before the police even lift the phone.

I saw the aftermath of a car crash on Southend Seafront couple of weeks ago, the police car had pulled out and hit 2 cars, one from each direction. I have never seen so many police.

3 police cars

4 motorbike cops

1 unmarked

Every Police patrol have Quotas to make ?

Certain numbers of arrests, queries, calls etc, etc to make.

As they have numbers, and henceforth targets to reach ? Its a business !

 

Business makes money ? Its all its about folks ! And a wee bit of keeping the shitheads safe.

 

This is an actual quote from a Police Officer. over 18 years in the service, and cant wait to get to **** out !

My money is on the person on the bridge was a 999 operator who'd had enough and knew nobody would be available to answer any calls for help!
