Silly question really but what marks on the timing belt go where. I guessed that the arrow FR -> means pointing forwards (the way you would drive), but which mark do you start with on the crank?

From memory - I thought that the belt, thermostat, two little water hoses and water pump should be replaced at 60k; whilst the pulleys would be fine to leave until 120k miles. Naturally, it depends on whether you can rely on the mileage reading.......:wink:

Tbh I'm torn because I have literally £20 ATM which I was going to buy oil with, but he'll that's not even enough for one of the pulleys, yet everyone is emphasising the importance.

 

I feel for you, I really do, I would have thought EXACTLY the same at your age! But experience does count for something... I didn't change the tensioner when I did the cambelt on my girlfriends saxo, trying to be cheap, it was fine before the change but made a horrible racket afterwards. Luckily I caught it before it let go. Lesson learnt!

Despite people advising to do all the pulleys at this point, as the pulleys are in the 120k kit and not the 60k, would it be reasonable to just replace the tensioner pulley as £30 I can stretch, as a the actual tensioning system is still very springgy and taut, and just replace the moving part? or would there be no point?

The hydraulic tensioner keeps the whole set up in check, you must take into account the age of components on these cars now, not just the mileage, if you really cannot afford all the parts now I would wait and save up until you can, but honestly these cars as do many others are a constant financial drain, but I truthfully enjoy every penny I spend on my zed, I don't see it as a drain, more of a love affair.....:biggrin:
