Hey all

We've got a Nissan franchise client at work (better not say where), and I went out recently for a couple of weeks to do the audit (yeah shut up :p ).

Talking to the Sales Director, I mentioned I was getting a 300zx, his response: "A what? A 350Z? I can order you one of them." He followed it up with a vague recollection of the 300zx a few years ago. "Never had one in though" Nice one mate.

I was hoping to get the chance of dealer servicing I could trust, maybe a discount

Another one of our clients is a certain German seat manufacturer...

Cheers

Pete

Hmmm, Sales director doesnt remember Nissan's and Japan's first production supercar and doesn't remember Nissan's fastest production car.

Should really say they haven't had the Nissan franchise for THAT long, but certainly long enough.

I pity the first unsuspecting Zed owner who takes their pride and joy in for work, gets quoted an extortionate price, then the car's worked on by mechanics who've never touched one  V harsh.

School league table style reports would be great :) OFDEAL maybe?

Swings and roundabouts though innit... one of the things that impressed me about me test drive in a 350 was that the dealer knew her stuff! (Even if she does own a Scooby.)

Proves what I've always supsected...

Dealerships are only really interested in New Car Sales - the parts and service departments are a necessary evil to keep the customers happy when they're considering buying a new car.

Once a model is history - so is the service from the dealers!

Hi all

I recently went to Dan Perkins Nissan in Slough to have the settings & base idle reset after replacing the TPS. They have a 300Zx specialist there and he knows his stuff.

He saw my 300zx.co.uk sticker in the window and mentioned a few more of us go there too, one Mr L***e being mentioned by name! (Hi Gio;) )

I would deffo use them for specialist bits or advice in future. They even got some refugees to clean my Zed inside and out FOC afterwards:D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Having once been in the automotive trade (2 wheels not 4) it is true to say that the quality is widely variable from dealer to dealer. Some bike dealers were simply rip-off merchants or wideboys and some couldn't do enough for their customers with spotless workshops and top-notch spannermen.

Seems car franchises are much the same. Good 'uns and bad 'uns and none of them are perfect.

I've always had my official services done at DP in Sluff (since 1999) and they have almost always been helpful and good quality. Even getting the odd top-up done on spec without booking. If all dealers were this good......

(Hi Rich, glad to hear that DP are playing right by you too!)

Last time I was there, saw a bloke off the 350zuk.com forum picking up his 350Z - Veilside bodykit and other bits and bobs - all done by the dealer and very nice it looked too.

Cheers - Gio

Crickey.

Is the 300 faster than a Skyline?

Being in the Motor Trade albeit for a Commercial Truck Dealer, I see daily a lot of 'wrong' doings by management/supervisors at my work, a lot of the time in the end the customer is the one who gets shafted for the total time on a job when the receptionist hasnt got the proper fault from the customer and items checked on that job dont need to be......communication being the problem, this being only a simple example.

Training is the next 'joke', with the technology going into cars now (and commercials) training should be at the top of any Workshop's list, it generally isnt due to it being seen as a cost with no gains, quite the oppisite i think in reality.

Another thing is the mechanics on the floor, some are filter spinners and some are good all-rounders (servicing/diagnostics/etc), again a customer suffers being charged a fortune when the garage politics come into force..ie a workshop controller trying to piss a mechanic off by giving hima job he aint suited too...ie the filter spinner getting an engine repair or something like that.

In the end the only person who looses out is the CUSTOMER, the mechanic doing the job he isnt up for takes too long on the job, this in turn piss's off the controller and away we go......but in the end only the customer suffers....he doesnt get his car back on time as promised, the only thing being is as i say the controller trying to make the filter spinner look bad by giving him the wrong job etc etc.

So in the end all the garages i would think have guys that are filter spinners and good all rounders.....so to me its pot luck with probably 90% of garages, for me I work in that enviroment and when i had grief with the wife's Citroen Picasso and took it back to the local dealer.....fun was had by me making the receptionist/workshop foreman/workshop manager...and woohooo then the general manager squirm.......PAYBACK TIME......these feckers werent gonna shaft me and they never.

Just my 2p's worth...sorry to let it drag on a bit.

Cheers John Crisp

when ever i need a part for mine i get my mate thats a spanner man and he takes me to the parts department, and im telling this parts guy to what i want and he;s amazed when i point out the part i need on the computer, normally if i go in and just ask they want the chasis number, i tell em its a j spec and there like oooh we cant get parts for them cant touch it,

Depends what you mean... the Skyline V-Specs are rally cars, sort of - the 300 is a GT and/or low-end supercar. Skyline faster to 60 (if because of 4WD) and probably faster to a ton but then the 300 has it.

Er, I think, can't be arsed looking for figures. :D

Unbeaten after 13 years.....

Hooray :D

This fact should be mentioned at least once a week  Or maybe we could have a separate forum to draw attention to it :D

Isn't there a guidline for how long jobs take?

If I want my engine pulled and it takes nissan 24 hours, I should only pay what the book says surely?

The book times are for newish cars serviced and maintained by the dealer. (providing they actualy have any mechanics)

The only expedition my Z ever took to the Nissan dealer was when I first bought the car 3 yrs ago for a hose to be replaced. they said it would be ready by 16.00 and I duley turn up to find some halfwit with half the engine out. No wing covers, screws nuts and bolts all over the place. At the end of which they presented me with a bill for £800. I didn't pay though. In the end I sent them a bill for £2000 which is what it cost me to get it sorted.

Wouldn't touch a dealer with a barge pole

Get a quote B4 the work is undertaken then hold them to the quote if they run over and make them justify the extra work. Also if u didnt authorise the extra work..why should u pay for it when they have went ahead without your authority.

Cheers John Crisp
