Hi guys and girls

Anyone have any idea if you can claim compensation from the dvla due to loss of earnings?

What it is my father in law is a ripe old age of 67 after years of not being able to work because of his weight and bad knees he had an operation lost 14 stone and was able to return to work he is a HGV Driver, each year he has to renew his licence have a medical etc, his licence was due for renewal January 2016 so he sent all his stuff medicals etc to the dvla in October 15, I know but early but that's pops for ya!

Anyhow he hadn't heard anything after Xmas so rung them and they have said that they want to send him for a medical which they will pay for but he has to go to his own gp first get a letter from them to send to the dvla, then wait a week ring dvla about an appointment with a doctor in guys hospital wait another 2 weeks then ring the hospital to make an appointment then wait until the doctor has sent back the relevant information to the dvla.

Well no he has incurred loss of earnings as he is unable to drive because of all this saga and works out to be quite a lot of money, him and mother in law are now worried about making ends meet and paying rent etc.

Any advice or tips as to what to put in a complaints letter etc

Thanks in advance

Good luck with that they are government department and like hmrc are answerable to nobody and couldn't care less try watchdog !!!

I know what they would say, don't commit to anything until he has the license.

You can't sue for loss of earnings because he wouldn't have been able to earn without a legal license anyway.
