Can you insure any of those cars cheaply? I couldn't, even now!

EK9 is the Type R also.

I couldn't remember the name of the non Type R version. the EJ9? idk

Insurance groups:

Corolla gxi - ~20 (but should be able to get classic policy)

Prelude the highest at 29

Non-type R 1999 civic ~15

For comparision a fiesta has insurance group 15, and an Audi TT (for the other end of the spectrum) insurance group 35

My guess at costs would be:

£2000

£4000

£1500

Though not 100% at all.

To an extent I do agree with you. But honestly driving it is the whole point. Having a car you cannot drive is like if you had impotence. It's seriously frustrating. The hours I spend working on my car are ok, I enjoy a tinker but there's a means to it. The driving.

So nows the time to buy zed stuff in Canada in £'s ey?

Well I bought my car for 1900 cad which is equal to 999.68£ so you could have had a awesome car for close to nothing but generally 300zx are around 6000 cad for a manual which is equal to 3516.89£

I bought mine for £2000 ~$3800 CA, which is cheap for here as a TT, but i suppose there is less work that needs doing to mine than yours (i think)

Ford Fiesta! My first car was a Fiat Uno Turbo [emoji106]

We should actually set up a separate thread for everyone to post what their first ever car was.... Could be fun if people have pics as well?

Would have done it earlier but been so busy today :)

From my experience of buying a zed at a young age - althought not as young as you guys - fair play to you if you end up driving it as soon as you pass your test!!! From the 7 years I've had mine, most of it all I've been able to do is look at it. I think it's rubbish that part of the experience with cars like this is just looking at them and fixing them - it's all about driving them!

I bought mine when I was either 16 or 17 but defintely before I'd passed my driving test. I'd convinced myself that a zed as a first car was doable from all the insurance quote websites; thinking I'd be able to get insurance for £3k or whatever it was but in reality when I came to actually buy the policy nobody would insure me till I was 19 iirc.

Then there's the problems you will inevitably have with them - for which you will either need a fair reserve of money or won't be able to do anything else with your life.

I'm now 24 and I've been driving for 7 years and in that time I've probably driven the zed all of about 200 miles before the turbos gave up. I've got tools and a pretty good understanding of how to do most things on the car but with work and other commitments the turbos took me that long to change after having to take the engine out that the body had started to rot.

Then I bought a house, and the car went into the garage and stayed there - forgotten about for nearly 3 years until this month when I've finally realised I haven't got the time to do anything to it myself and it's gone off to finally be repaired properly.

I'm not gonna say to anyone that zed ownership at a young age is a bad idea - because when I first joined this website when I was thinking of buying mine plenty of people on here told me it was a bad idea to have a zed and that the one I was thinking of buying was an overpriced and poor example, and I didn't listen. All I can say is perhaps I should have!:whistling:

Good luck to you!

I damaged my first car, only slightly. I backed into a brown Maestro - TBH, I hate Maestros, so I think it was out to get me!

That's why I don't think of it as my 'first car', hence haven't posted in the first cars thread. It won't be the first car I'll be driving probably for a while.

Well in Canada where I'm from and live there is a special insurance you get if the car is 25 years old or older and the insurance for a full year is $300 for collectors plates which is that but the rules of collectors is you can't bring it to a few areas I forget the areas and you can't drive more then 5000km a year so I have it pretty good when I'm 17 my car will become collectable and then I can have awesome cheap insurance

There is in UK too. But UK insurance is still very expensive. The classic insurance costs about 1/3 of normal.

Most classic policies require you to be over 25, some its 21, most though it's 25. Amongst other stipulations such as it not being your primary vechile, you need it to be a second car commonly. The first few years I paid about £1500 a year, once I hit 25 and was eligible it dropped to £150. Big difference. For a new driver of 17 years old, I'd expect to pay about £5k a year to insure a Z32 on normal insurance. Probably more for an NA than a TT as well. Most new drivers will pay a premium of £2-2.5k for the first years insurance on a low powered car, typically a small 4cyl hatch with less than 100hp.

Some yes, tbh I thinking about just being happy sharing my mums car for a while because i dont want to pay the £3000 insurance for a shitty car im just going to get rid of.

This was the cheapest online quote i could get but I seem to remember it was 1000 mile limit. (two drivers as I cant have the insurance on my own as i haven't had classic before/high powered car)

Man it's rough for uk drivers it's maybe 1000 for a average used car for a driver under 21
