Hello!

Spoke to to respray shop today and just want to know if what I was told is accurate and reasonable!

I have a blue zed. I have an oem 99 spec front bumper in red which needs a respray. The guy said that it would be around 600 to respray the bumper as they wouldn't be able to get get very goo colour match - it will always look darker and stand ou apparently unless they did considerable blending work up through th fenders.

Does this so correct? I just wonder as in the past I have been quoted 300 quid for colour matched respray and he didn't mention anything about having to blend or it being a different colour.

Also, he suggested th best thing to do would be a full respray (which I do agree with) which would cost around 2k.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

The cost of materials is a big chunk of any spray job, i bought a litre of 2k paint and primer and a few other bits to respray my lads scooter and that little lot cost £80 and thats without my labour lol.

So a couple of hundred quid for a bumper is a pretty good price considering the prep :thumbup1:

The paint for my yellow zed is £45 per litre, so you can imagine some colours, just for the paint make a big hole in the budget before anything is even done to it lol

I went to one spray shop who just looked at the 99 spec bumper and quoted £400, needles to say i wont be going there lol

My mates celica is done in lamborghini borealis orange pearl and that paint was £275 a litre!? Not bad price for the respray at £1700 was it! That included fitting the bodykit too..

:scared: thats a good price for the whole respray then, must be at least 3 litres of paint

Yea I was shocked to be honest, but the job is spot on. All the door shuts, the underside of the bonnet, they took all the glass out including the quarter lites and windscreen. All the doors off and there was some panel damage that needed straightening too. They even sprayed the sills under the skirts before fitting them too which I've experienced the trick before of fitting skirts and leaving the sills...

Can't fault the job they done on the car.

He said he'd do a good job at a good price and he stuck to his word.. I reckon they got the paint cheaper than I could as they're in the trade and I'm fairly sure that stockists probably don't shift much lambo orange, but regardless, the pearl coat is spot on as is the lacquer. Altogether a faultless job at a price not to be beaten.. Certainly won my business in future if I ever get the Z done! Although they'll probably have retired by that time with the amount of polishing and waxing I do :thumbup1:

had a good quote from your guy, so just waiting for some prices for the other little bits and bobs that need spraying too and will go form there! London prices seem too high. Had another quote for bumper wheels and some lacquer / scratch removal of £1500! :s crazy

I'd spoken to him that's why you're rate is a lot lower lol..

Glad he's given you a price that you're happy with, I'm positive you'll be just as happy with his work..

Hi matey, off to see sam on monday to discuss the job. He is a bit hard to get hold of though! Do you have any before/after photos of the work he has done?

How did you get on with Sam mate? He's hard to get hold of cos he's constantly either in the booth or prepping and his phone is out of earshot..

Leave a message and he'll get back to you asap..

Went and visited Sam today at panel and paint. Very nice guy and obviously very skilled. He is pricing up the job but we uncovered some interesting history about the car!...

So by the looks of it under close inspection it appears to already have had a respray, probably when It was in japan as I knew the original uk owner and he didnt respray it. Some of the issues now are from where the old repairs on panels have started to suffer due to moisture ingress, or lacquer peel.

So we are pricing up front 99spec bumper, 99 spec wing (including welding up old holes), full strip and paint of wheels, and basically a full respray on both sides and front to fix the issues that are starting to creep up. Looking forward to his quote, seems like a really decent bloke though.

Glad you went to see Sam.. He really is a nice guy and as you say, he reallt knows his stuff mate.

He's good on price aswell..

I'm sure your Z will look spanking after he's done with her..

Look forward to seeing it finished mate

Thought you already had a 99 spec front sat waiting?
