I heard that rb26s have iron blocks so can handle more boost pressure on stock internals.

Internals and block are different things. The VG has an iron block.

It's a more popular engine as it's generally easier to work on. It is very tuneable, but the VG30DETT will always produce the higher torque value mod-for-mod. The VG is not the lump of chocolate that people seem to 'think' it is. It's an extremely strong engine, in fact the block itself is stronger than the RB.
