So unfortunately a small electrical fire has damaged a fuse box and carpet so with parts cost insurance say it's a total loss, just had flywheel and clutch done, runs well with 110k on it, 6 months mot, respray, gtr35 carbon spoiler, some rate rims on it, manual TT with leather. So what value should I argue that's it's worth?

That's really unfortunate, are you scrapping the car for another or are you just going to replace the wiring loom and fix it?

Even if they won't listen (which I don't imagine they will tbh, but worth a go anyway) surely you could buy it back off them and (hopefully) not really lose out?

They may put a scrap title on the car which would make hard to insure and not worth very much.

I'm just deciding whether to go for buy back if they allow it but firstly I need to agree what it's worth. Only done 50 miles in it since put on the road after 3 years and 0 without the clutch slipping!

Do you mean one of the cat thingy codes? They might lower the value, but from my (very limited) experience I'm not sure insurance will be a problem for cat c or d

I'd say around 4.5 to 5K min. If you have to find a rust free car to that spec with fresh paint and good wheels then it's not cheap.

If you tell them you do not want it written off, they will give you a price to get it fixed yourself, I did this on my Jag and they did not put a marker or cat on the car.

When my car was flooded in 2009, they allowed me €4500 as it was too expensive to replace the engine, I took the car back and €3500, I've been buying bits and pieces for the last few years and am finally ready to get her going again. I will have to get an engineers report to say it's roadworthy when she's finally done:thumbup:. Still think it was worth my while keeping her:thumbup1:

Well it was settled with a bit of pushing at £4000 and £500 to buy her back. Been busy getting things done..

The garage did well to catch it when they did as box, cables and plastic trim were alight. So dash out and pull out and replace all the toasty bits. The dash is back in and I'm just putting all the other parts back in, cars runs and is alive!

I guess the cause of the short was with the targa drain running into the dash and soaking the wiring with rain water........??

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Happy days, looking at those toasted bits, you were lucky it was caught before the whole car went up, glad to see you got looked after:thumbup1:

Funny you should say that.....

Good you got her back! You've probably made a profit haven't you?

Done ok I would say...

Congrats!!! I highly recommend that EVERYONE with a nice Z32 get either stated value insurance ex Haggerty classic car insurance or at the custom parts value to your regular carrier for a few bucks more! So if a mishap occurs you're covered for its actual worth!

If you have an agreed value you be lucky to get £3500 and having a cat c or d put people buying in the future

I have stated value on my ZX of $15000 but I have to agree to a certain things. Garage or covered parking, mileage driven under 7500 a year, must have another form of transportation and not be a work commuter.

I had a Fiero GT with the same insurance type buy with $7500 stated value and it was totaled and I got $7000 after the deductible.

$15k seems a lot, didn't realise how much the american market differed, I'm pretty sure you wont have to worry about driving it more than 7500 a year though.

Us insurance is different z's have a higher value there

That's why I said I was surprised in the market differences. I know Zs are more popular over there, but I didn't think like double the price

Young lady and/or man understand, "stated value" or even appraised value insurance policy specializing in specialty, antique, modded, restored or rare autos. My car like many others here and I'm sure you'll get there too one day, is based upon the condition, professionsal grade modifications, custom or restoration value, etc. A 21 year old unmolested or not abused Z32 in mint condition is rare ANYPLACE in the world and to have the privilege to own one is rare. The numbers are very small and there's some VERY nice cars still represented. I'm happy to own a very nice example of only 951 300ZX 2+2 produced in 1995 etc.

Why would one spend invest thousands of dollars and not pursue a top notch insurance company to cover your property? It only takes a phone call to your insurance agent to discuss upgrading the policy to cover what $$$ amounts you think it's worth (sometimes an appraisal must be done ie, my Fiero and I had a 1965 VW Karmann Ghia covered under the same policy as well). Just do your research before you make a butt out of yourself.

And last but not least I've been monitoring this site for years and joined after doing business with a member here and I've been impressed by the gentlemen and ladies her. I'm only a couple days in as a member and why are you following me thread by thread commenting and trying to insult in a feeble juvenile manner? This appears to be a site of intelligent enthusiast on par with other adult driven forums like ClubLexus.com (I was a moderator and hard working member), Jaguarforum.com (I owned 2 XJ8 VDP & S type R) & Etc basically stop trolling me and being a feline. I don't argue with girls/young men it's not my style so I'm done with you and this foolishness. I didn't sign up to be harassed by an anonymous cyber keyboard warrior.

Let's move on so I can enjoy my few moments here, I have a family and business to run and every moment I have to enjoy my passion with like minds is fun. I'm sure you have a lot to offer in your 1500 posts in 4 months I'm assuming you have a ton of Z knowledge and I may find a benefit in you as well. This is our 4th ZX and I'm still open to learn.

Youre right every car market is different and over the past 3 years the Z32 is rising in value and I'm so glad because it's a worthy car! The prices of Supra's, 968 and RX7 here is wild! And the Z32 was the only one to garner Car and Driver magazine 10 best award every year it was produced!
