Ok guys, probably should of started this last year when I decided to resurrect my 1993 JDM 300zx Twin Turbo Auto. I said I call the car "Blue Thunder" (mostly just to annoy everyone:tt2:) as it will be loud and blue:thumbup:.

You'll have to bear with me as I'm going to use previous posts off this forum for most of the current bits and I'm not "computer super proficient" with adding images etc

I'll start at the very beginning if I can remember back that far:lol: (No pics in this quick update) (This is for the benefit of anyone joining after '09)

Bought the car in the summer of 2005, a low mileage (42K) 1993 300zx TT auto, within a few months the timing belt had stripped some teeth, luckily no engine damage. Replaced belts, series 2 PTU and bought my 19" TSW Catalunyas. Had to get the rear wheels custom made to 9.5" as they weren't available in this size:thumbup1:. Went on to buy a Pioneer Avic X1R single DIN touchscreen Sat-Nav stereo to liven up the sounds and my Brembo Big Brake kit.

July 2006 - Engine had a ticking noise, nothing major, diagnosed as sticky lifters, recommended solution was an oil change. Bought 2 4.5 litres of Castrol Edge 10W60, oil filter and an engine flush, brought it to a "garage" and asked them to drop the oil, using the engine flush, refill with the fresh Castrol oil heat it up, flush it out, fit the new filter and refill with the other container of Castrol Edge...Simples:innocent:

Collected the car and went home, got to the house and the engine turned into a tractor, lifted the bonnet, oil everywhere, they'd put the full 9 liters into the car and wrecked the engine.:scared::thumbdown: After a few arguments and the backing of the Motor Factors owner where the oil was bought, the "Garage" eventually admitted responsibility. They sent the car to another "Garage" who was fitting the new engine from API, more drama, Radio was stolen in their care and engine lasted a day, oil sump had been damaged and suction pipe couldn't get enough oil in, another knackered engine:scared::thumbdown:.

2007 - Sued the "Garage" and got the car back 2008.:thumbup1:

2008 - 2009 Went to a decent bloke who sorted the engine, did the manual conversion, fitted a brand new Exedy street performance clutch with an RPS Lightweight Flywheel, BuddyClub Racing Spec Coilovers, Z1 hardpipes and HKS Induction kit. November '09 Hydrolocked the engine driving into a puddle:scared::thumbdown:

2010 - After getting "Ripped off" on a Border Fuel Rail, 555 injectors and Japanese "UK" Clocks (meant to be UK but had been converted) and with a 9% pay deduction and extra Levies / charges on Civil Servants (totalling a 60% deduction of my already diminished gross pay), I called it a day on the Z:thumbdown:

You haven't mentioned any bodywork Richie, have you inspected the car for rust? If there's none after all it's been through, consider me impressed :)

We had a good look around the car as best we could, seeing as it's sitting an inch and a half lower on its coilovers, all looked to be in good shape with no visible rust, but we'll know more when she goes up on the lift in 19 days time:biggrin:

So we're agreed, the naming formula is (car colour, elemental force).

Crimson Sun? Yeah

I dub mine therefore, crimson tide.

This week, I've mostly been clearing outstanding debts, I've everybody sorted with the exception of Lee (Jaikai), I'll be getting to you in the coming week or so mate:thumbup1:. So that's all my interior pieces (Gear and Handbrake gaiters, gear knob, handbrake handle and console armrest) being retrimmed with Mondo , Rear NA subframe, diff, some hardboard boot trims for Dutchgold and my Twinz Type 2 rear bumper ready for shipping from Baz :w00t:. Got a quote from Nissan of €135 for the 99 bumper mesh!!!, got a sheet for £25 (€30) delivered from one of Luke's (Z Centre) contacts:thumbup: Cheers Luke:thumbup1:.

I've been considering getting some interior parts Carbon dipped just to freshen up the interior, what do people think of this?? I've been given a quote of €100 to do my Carmad 99 front splitter but I wouldn't be doing it till later on in the year anyway. I saw Rich 20's carbon dipped pieces and I think they look quite well:thumbup1: dbtgallery.php?do=gallery_image&id=1305&gal=dbtgallery&type=full

Looks good but I wouldn't do the whole center console. The way Nissan did it (stereo surround and window control surrounds) looks best in my opinion.

You could source the OEM ones but they're single DIN only and the window control surrounds won't fit your car I think. There's also this style, which I like.

Personally, I wouldn't do the centre console for a couple of reasons:

1. It could look a bit odd if the dashboard isn't done to match, as the two pieces join together and share the same texture.

2. It'd be a lot of work to remove the textured finish from the console so you have a nice smooth base for the carbon dipping to sit on.

Just my $0.02 Richie, mate :thumbup1:

That's why I asked buddy, I want peoples opinions:thumbup:, I'm thinking maybe doing the switch and radio surrounds, I've a couple of radio surrounds, and I don't think it would be too expensive to get an extra set of switch surrounds (Baz:innocent::whistling:), I could get a full set done ala 99 spec and see how it looks:thumbup1:, I can't see it being too much extra on top of the front splitter.

I appreciate that mate:thumbup1:, not really gone on the piano black marble finish, but yeah my radio surrounds are single din also, might bite the bullet and grab a double din later on in the year, I've sorted out your boot liner for you :thumbup1:

I have some switch surrounds here, mate - I'll post them out to you :thumbup1:

Any update rich ?

Car is booked to go in for the engine swap in 5 days time (Monday), I was talking to the mechanic about taking pics of the progress as it's getting the EGR delete and Plenum bypass done along with every pipe / hose / gaskets / Turbo's / Intercoolers / Radiator / exhaust replaced. Speaking of Plenum bypass's, can anyone post up a link to a TT one being done, all I can seem to find is for NA cars:confused1:

Car is now going in on Monday for 10 working days instead of the previous 5, due to this, the price has gone up, but in fairness to the garage the daily rate works out at €50 less, I was originally paying €1k for the 5 days work, it's now gone to €1.5k but they can take their time, do the deletes and do a progress picture file as well as fit everything:thumbup1:, I'm fecking broke again, TV packed up last night also!! The next two weeks is going to see me pay out €1500 for the car, €500 for a problem to go away (work related), €2000 for a upgraded security system (work related), €700 for a TV (deposit) and I've €930 in my savings a/c (for the Z work)!! :sweatdrop::no: Starting to feel a little stressed out:thumbdown:

You've paid €500 to have someone killed and paid €2000 to protect yourself from their mates? This sounds like an episode of love/hate!

So I wasn't the only one thinking that :D

I would be tempted to do a leather wrap on the dash with french seams as the detailing.

Haven't got the money for that mate, Car is going in tomorrow and I've managed to get the week off work, I'll be doing little updates during this time:thumbup1:

So, today I pulled out the Selin Dual Maf translator and two Apexi intakes, said I'd take a spin up to the garage...

Big shout out to Brian Cooney of BC Motors

Funnily enough he kept asking me if I had anyone else who would be interested in doing it:biggrin:

Still don't know if he was messing or serious :whistling:

On a good note, no rust on the bodywork, good clean and dry underneath with a small bit of surface rust on the exhausts and subframe, both of which are getting stripped out:thumbup1:
