my tyres are wearing on the inside edge. does this mean they are toeing in or out. does anyone have camber and caster angles that should be to hand.

I bought my car with bald inside edges on the fronts, the rest of the tyre was a little low but ok.

I had the tyres changed and then the tracking checked. Guess what ? It was spot on, no adjustment required.

How can this be ?

Bald inside edges can still be caused by excessive negative camber, even if the tracking is spot on. Generally worse if the car has been lowered.

So how do we know if we have excessive negative camber ?.

My car has not been lowered either.

You'll need to get it measured then compare it to the values in the manual.

I would imagine sagging bushes on the top link could lead to this (top of wheel moves further in). I believe it's quite common on Z's.

You can get kits to shim the mount of the top link to correct it (Chirs C is doing a group buy on them at the moment).

Sagging springs will allow this to happen - as the wheel travels through its suspension movement the top leans in - this is so under hard cornering, with the suspension loaded on the outside wheels, the tyre stays flat on the ground. Worn tie bar bushes could actually cause this too as the will allow the wheels to move backwards under braking making them toe out. How much extra was the inside worn??? If you drive a car hard it will NEVER wear its tyres evenly anyway...

can i just point something out here :D

i drive my car hard, and it always wore tyres evenly

UNTIL

it started meeting other Z's in pubs and car parks, and feeling left out, decided to start wearing front tyres on the inside edge too....

a bit like a club requirement

Toe out or toe in can be better diagnoied by feeling for feathering. Run your fingers from the inside edge out and vice versa. Smooth one way and rough the other is s sign of bad tracking. Smooth inside to outside I think is toe out, outside to inside toe in. Smooth both ways means camber is the most likely reason.

If the neg camber isnt too bad you could always justify cornering that bit quicker in the dry and not worry about the tyre wear as it is only evening things up!
