bigh Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Whilst I have been having some work done on the house the Zed, has been on the drive. It has been connected to a trickle charger, but I went to move it today and just got a click from the motor. I pulled my DD along side and tried to jump her, but still joy. If the battery had a duff cell or is knackered would it be enough to stop it from being jump started? Can't bump start her as shes on the drive, which slopes. Any otherideas before I go buy a new battery? As I want to get her in the garage soon. Cheers. Quote
pig Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Bypass the battery by connecting the earth cable to the engine and positive on the battery. If still no joy give the starter a tap with a hammer to free it off. Quote
redwine300 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Worth cleaning a re tightening the battery connections. Quote

pig Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Should be able to get some thing like a broom handle down the side of the engine by the brake master cylinder Quote
Stephen Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 If it sounds like a tiny machine gun it's probably the battery has insufficient power. If it's an older battery, with the sudden drop in temperature over the last few days my monies on a failed battery. Quote
bigh Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 Towed the car off the drive into the road and after two attempts managed to bump start her. Got her onto the ramps in the garage, tomorrow I will be checking the starter and relay etc to find the fault. Quote
Hollings Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Before you start diagnosing them why not take the batt out of your daily and see if it cranks. Just remember to have your radio code handy Quote

bigh Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Well swapped the battery from my daily, and still just the click from the solenoid. Started to get the car on axle stands, need to remove the drivers side decat pipe to give a bit more room to get the heat shield off the starter, just hoping the starter comes out once the heat shield is off, as there isn't much room what with the D/P and oil sandwich plate. Will give it a go tomorrow hangover permitting, :innocent: Quote
pig Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Where abouts are you mate? I have a spare starter you can have Quote
bigh Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 Where abouts are you mate? I have a spare starter you can have Hi many thanks for the offer, I have sent you a PM Quote
Hollings Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Before you unbolt the starter check the beefy supply cables as the starter bolts are pretty crappy for ruining the threads in the gearbox Quote
bigh Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Well all the cabling was intact, and I got the starter out. Will hook it up tomorrow and get Mrs B to turn her over so I can see what's happening. Anyone got a spare heat shield for the starter? as I had to cut mine to get it to clear the larger down pipes I have fitted Quote
bigh Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 Well just to update this thread. Turned out the solenoid was shot. Had it looked by a specialist and they fitted anew one so its all back in the car now, just waiting for the battery to fully charge and should be good to go. Quote
