I had a little job to do in me changing the indicator on my door mirror and I wasn't aware you could remove just the housings without taking the door card off, etc, and then remove the all shebang....but you can.

First get some strips of rag and then pull off the mirror, mine is the heated type so hence the two wires in the 2nd pic and just leave this dangling if you don't want to unplug that is.

There are now six screws to remove, 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom, you can remove these with the window up with a normal length screwdriver but of course the mirror needs to be in the 'out' position. Please note i have a cut away part to the left on the pic to enable the indicator to fit in. After removal of these six screws the front part will now come off.

One more screw now and it's on the end of the screw driver in the pic below, you can remove like i have done with the window down or struggle with a stubby with the window up. The back will now come off with a little jiggle/force or if you like close the mirrors in and the back practically falls off so be careful, use this closing in method when you refit this back part, you'll find it much easier and put that one screw in but you'll need the window down. Fold the mirror back out once this is done, now refit the front part and those 6 screws.

Of course now you end up with this, i even left them like this, open to the elements without a problem. Notice the bottom screw bolt is still attached, this does not need removing.

I haven't touched anything internally, saved me a lot of time, even though door card removal is not a big issue i was so pleased i could work this way especially dodging the showers like today.

The front housing just slides through and out.

And another pic showing the part the mirror itself engages on.....at the four lugs, just offer onto these and press home, if you didn't know that !!

Replace.....why ?

You not happy with the lens itself or some leds have blown ?

All my four down each side were yellow in colour but i am now going for the more traditional amber, just got the rears to change over now.

You could keep the lens/cut it internally down perhaps and shine some other lights through it ?

Hi Andy,

The leds have blown I think as none work on off side & only 2 on near side.

Also to replace the leds can I get them from maplins?

The leds will i expect be connected to a pcb, wonder if it might be best and possible to just buy either 12v 5mm amber bulbs with the tails or get some sort of amber light behind....ie just use some smd strips to just shine through the lens ?

You'll just need to open it up and assess.
