My fuel tank has a few dents on it and I am looking for a dent-free / rust free replacement that I can get powdercoated.

Don't ask me what happened with the thread title! It's baffled me also and I can't edit it!

simon when you get it power coated like i did mine, one you have removed the fuel pump there is a plastic baffle there the fuel pump sits in inside the tank ist held on my 4 little tangs witch you bend up i then used a heat gun to make it soft you can just about get it throw the hole were the fuel pump was with a bit of a fight, what is did know and may wont as no many have powder coats the tank is there is a other plastic baffle that you cant see but and feel it on the top of the fuel tank its a baffle for the breather on the tank i did not know it was there when i get it power coated its melted in the take and was a arse to scrape it all out you would know it was there untl you put you hand in the tank and feel it also held on by tangs so remove that to before you powercoat so you dont do what i did. had it not melted i would have never know it was there. hope that makes sense.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the info - what parts are you referring to (see diagram).

Cheers

tank.jpg

on that diagram it does not show the baffles. undo all the bolts holding the fuel pump in place remove the fuel pump when you look inside the tank you will see a plastic half tub you cant miss it its held in with 4 little tangs just bent up and its free need heating with the heat gun to get it throw the hole makes the plastic soft. that bit is ok but there is a other get your hand in the tank and have a feel round and you will feel it but cant see it this is after you have wash the tank out of coarse many time! thats held in with 2 tangs if i remember you have to work blind on that one, once you have a look you wil get what am saying , my tank smoked the whole powder coating place out as when backing it melted it and then stuck in side the tank spend like 2 hours cleaning the melted mess out

red arrow points the the breath baffle location but its inside the tank. and arrow 2 point to the loction of the basket in the tank i have drawn a crude pic round the fuel pump of what it would look like when the pump is in the tank as you can see it the bottom of the pump sits in it do you see what i mean ?tank.jpg

Oh ok, I get ya. I'll make sure I retrieve it all when I pull it out. I guess it can be reused if removed correctly?

the tub that sits round the fuel pump yes can see reused just needs heating upa bit with heat gun to get it thro the fuel pump hole the breather baffle my melted so its gone now, look in pic see the hump i have draw a a while circle b stands for baffle. its in the there you can only feel it and cant see it if you dont get it out it will melt in the tank and make a rite mess and it **** to clean out SDC12392.JPG

no they were all ok the bumpers were like new. there is also bits of flat rubber i just siliconed them all back on see pic the tape its just to hold them while they dried SDC12394.jpg

There are some bumpers on it and I was lucky to get hold of a brand new one in the original finish. I considered doing mine, but it's been pinched along the leading edge.
