I dont know when/if the cambelt on my zed has been done since new. Does anyone know what would the markings be on a 1991 fairlady factory belt? Just so I know if it's has a change at any point. Seriously obscure question I know.. Also what's the cheapest place to buy a full kit?

Thanks

Oli

If you are unsure then I would recommend that you get it changed. You'll then have piece of mind rather than a nagging doubt, just my opinion.

I'd also recommend that you get an OEM kit rather than a patterned set from ebay. Mr F at MJP in our traders section can supply genuine OEM parts at very competitive prices. Just put a post up in his section and he'll get back to you.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check cambelt cover tomorrow but I don't think it has a sticker on..could be a 24 year old cambelt!! I am going to change it either way, it's just a matter of how soon as funds are tight! :/

No need to unnecessarily get it changed............................good for a few more years yet .

Mine was swapped in 2001, and 2010. So that's ten years between each change...

Some say it should be replaced every five years, some say every 7. If mileage is not reached. But I have never read a servicemanual on the zx that states years as interval. Only mileage... Why is that? I've nevertheless bought a new belt as five years is long enough for me....

Nissan belt or Gates belt seems to be the recommended

You dont hear of many cam belts breaking but better to check them out and change if necessary. Mine was first done at 45,000 miles in Jan. 04 so thats 11 years after the Z was made.

Then it was done again in June 2015 with 65,000 miles so thats only 10,000 miles since the last change but again 11 years later. The belt that came of was still in very good shape and I would even say like new!

No sticker, it appears to be the original! 8-o does that £325 cambelt service include parts?? Anything else to look out for or change while I have the front end off?? Does tensioning the belt require a measuring tool? Had no reply off the eastern auto chap yet re a price.. :]

5 years is a life time for cambelt acording to nissan. Mine was last time replaced 6 years ago and only done 3k. For the piece of mind i replaced it. Easy job would say half a day if you take your time. Cambelt itself is cheap (about 55£) but if you need tensioner water pump and all pulleys it will be a lot :)

As Dave says.....

.....Change it for peace of mind. And ALWAYS use the OEM kit - Nissan says replace at 60k miles, but if you've no history, then do it ASAP.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Sorry for jumping on this post but I've recently purchased my z and I'm doing all the belts. I have the timing, power steering and alternator belt but the place I got them from don't have the cam belt. Could someone link me to the correct one I'll need. It's a non turbo. Thanks

Timing belt and cam belt are the same thing. Do you mean something else?

There's also one for the AC compressor, which is probably worth replacing with the others.

Ahhh ok yeah I'll do them all at once so I know they're all done

Also the thermostat and possibly waterpump could do with replacing if they're original.
