As per the title, I want to replace my current stearing wheel for a standard one. Not to bothered about the condition too much as I want to send it to Mondo to do his magic, but would prefer the centre panel to be in good condition.

Have a chat with Mondo I think he has a spare std wheel in stock.

My spare OEM wheel will be sent off to it's new home in a couple of days... BUT I'll be getting an exchange one straight back so yes, I'll have a spare CC steering wheel available for trimming if need be :)

Don't suppose you have an oem gear knob....? :D (Sorry for the blatant hijacking of the thread OP)

Sadly not - took me a while to find one for my own Zed!

Mondo - really interested in the steering wheel, with it recovered. How long would it take you to do? I assume you are really busy..

If you just want the rim trimming, then that's a one day job. If you want the centre pad trimming as well, then the whole thing will take a couple of days :)

Busy? Oh yes! But I always try and leave room to fit smaller jobs like these in :thumbup1:

Do you have any examples of what can be done to the centre panel? I think I saw one with full leather trim, but I think would prefer something softer if that makes sense.

SiMondo, when you trim the centre pad, is there anyway the stitch lines running down the pad could match the stitch lines coming up on the lower spoke of the steering wheel? (If that makes sense!)

The way the original wheels are trimmed means there are no lines of stitching on the spokes, only on the rim itself.

It's simple enough to continue the stitching up the sides of the spokes. The only real way to have any centre pad stitching that follows on from that would be to hand-stitch the centre pad...

Define "softer" please....

The only one I think I have seen was covered in leather and although it was obviously very high quality and finish, the leather looked a bit thick over the centre panel and it looked like it had been covered and not how it came out of the factory, like the rim does. I am thinking the centre panel may need covering to give it a more modern look but want it to look like it came out of the factory that way.

Does that make sense?

That's the most straightforward method to trimming the centre pad. If, as Joel was asking about, someone wanted the stitching to follow that on the rim, then you could expect to see cross-stitched lines on the edges instead.

Aside from effectively making a completely new cover for the centre pad (and doing away with the existing rubber cover), I'm not sure how else it could be trimmed...

Does the leather go around the back as well or is it just covering the front cover? To be honest the more I look at this the more I like it.

I have a OEM knob in good condition if your interested.

The leather covers the entire centre pad, including the top and sides, and is securely tucked underneath the edges - this means that, when the wheel is fitted, there are no edges or anything like that visible. :)

For those looking for an oem gear knob I just got this delivered from Japan

It was about £35 delivered (to Hong Kong)
