Renewal is less than a month away and although I've a few left to try the best quote I've got yet is just under €3,400. Anyone have a useful contact in the insurance industry? Car is too new for a classic policy.

I'm with Admiral who also have my mods listed and I have class one business use. Fully Comprehensive costs me about £390 (but I am getting on a bit!)

I don't think they're active in ROI though :(

If you have NFU over there try them as in my experience you quite often get to speak to the person who actually makes the decision

3400 what for a year hay ?

Looks like they're only up North.

That is very expensive Jay  Have you tried Quinn-Direct to see if they cover the South?

Age, engine size and import status... There's nobody in the industry here that really understands anything about cars.

€3400! Ouch. Is that a regular car policy? My classic cover is significantly less than 10xs less then that!

I got the same issue with Zebedee as well however Heritage Insurance put it on a limited mileage performance car policy £240 . My white zed is on a classic policy with them as well.

Who have you tried Jay??

Most of the main ones - still have to ring Liberty as their system won't pick up my reg. Working my way through every broker I can find at the moment.

Latest one will insure for €3,477 and no problem that it's an import, but they won't give me a third party extension as I'm under 25... Even though I have one now... Not really an option to go without it with a Z for me

It's the fact that the car is at the newer end of the scale being a 99 reg and you being only 21 yrs old, as my car is 22yrs it doesn't fall into the Classic category yet so I've been quoted €850 by AXA and I've the bike, L200 and Outlander insured with them:thumbdown:

Back in '05 till '10 when I bought my Z, the cheapest option for me was Trade Insurance, I was running 3-4 cars, RX8, Evo8, Fireblade bike, Z and the regular cars, my insurance was never really more than €2K fully comp, Give Kilbride Insurance a shout in Carlow and ask to speak to Michael, tell him that Richie Keogh recommended him to you for a trade policy as you buy and sell a few cars:thumbup1:

Worth trying anyway:thumbup:

AXA (and most) will do a classic policy once the car is 20 years old. The auldfella has a Sierra on classic with AXA and will probably get the Porsche on it too next year (1996).

Might try for trade insurance if I have no better option though, cheers!

Axa told me that the car had to be 25 years old for Classic Insurance?? The brother has his GTR on trade as he wheels and deals in buying and selling cars,I'll ask him who he's with if you want?? I was fully comp on my policy, they paid out €11k when I got cleaned off my R1 by a Hit and Run driver on '06

The Sierra is 25 years old and it's been on that policy for years now. You should hassle them on that! You could also try First Ireland or Carole Nash for classic.

No harm in asking, thanks.

Campion Insurance in Dublin is who the brother is with, he's around 30yrs old, paying €1800, he says you have to clarify fully comp on all cars as they apparently cover modified and classic as Third Party. Prestige are the Underwriters

Do they not look for VAT numbers or anything like that? I've heard a bit about that online.

I didn't need one anyway, the brother doesn't have one but his friend owns a tire centre?? I'll ask

OK, I asked my brother and he says that Prestige do not require a VAT no., As stated earlier Campion Insurances are the brokers for Prestige Jay, the only thing going against you is your age, give them a shout, it's worth a try:thumbup1:

Cool - I've got a few routes of enquiry left but if I can't get anything near decent then I'll have to give it a go. Renewal is on the 16th of August.

Maybe set your dad up with Trade and put yourself on as named driver, it might still come in cheaper again, I mean anything lower than €3500 is a bonus plus that would cover you to get into any car from €800 to €180000
