Hi, i am a new member with a 1993 uk-spec 300zx Twin Turbo automatic, off the road for the last 9 years or more, only 45000 miles, i've spent the last six months with friends mechanically restoring her, as all the rubber parts were perished, even the seals in the water pump, i've replaced almost everything, water pump, cam belt, all belts, full service, etc etc, bushes, new disks & pads, new tyres on original wheels, full Mongoose Stainless exhaust (four tailpipe), kept everything original, but she is running lean because of the performance air-filter & exhaust, need to re-map/chip the ECU, need help & advice on the best specialist to see in my area, i had a 300zx back in the 90's but had to sell it to buy my first house, always regretted it, spent the last few years looking, found this one through a good friend in the motor trade. engine, gearbox & body very good, in red so faded needs re-spray, but for now need to re-map, regards, tezteltez.

Welcome and get some photos up!

The exhaust and airfilter won't really affect your car's fuelling. How do you know it's running lean? Is it pinking?

a good friend who is a top mechanic at Mendip-Autoserve advised me that it should be re-mapped to insure there is no valve seat burn or piston ring wear, and also to let the engine run at optimum level, as its restricted because of automatic settings & general uk-spec settings.

Welcome back to zedhood.

Well, if you're in the Chilcompton in Somerset, I think Jimmer @ Powerzed http://www.powerzed.com/ is closest to you. Never used him personally but has a good rep here.

(Sorry FunkySi, I have this OCD need to actually ATFQ :D )

Much as it hates me to agree with Portishead's finest, doesn't sound like remap is the answer to the problem (and, agreeing again, what makes you think it's running lean - what's the evidence?). I had a JDM Manual TT with Mongoose and didn't need a remap either. So off to Jimmer with you, I'd say.

Personally, if you have an unmolested UK car with 45,000 genuine miles, I'd advise you to keep everything original because they're getting rarer and rarer.

This has been a party political broadcast on behalf of the "don't screw up your zed party" :)

! I know much less than real people on this forum, so I'll step back and let them take that apart ("re-mapped to insure no valve seat burn or piston ring wear" ??? WTF).

The standard map is fine and the ECU can compensate for things like exhausts and filters.

You can get it remapped and Noel (turbonoz) on here is the man for the job, but the lean running you're experiencing is not likely the stock mapping...unless that chip you have in there is any sort of aftermarket chip and you're running higher-than-normal boost.

I agree. Sounds like the mechanic is talking a bit of jibberish!
