Not normal that's shafted.

 

If it's touching the sides now what do you think would happen at 40,000 rpm, it will be all over the place.

 

Rebuild time.

Mine ones on the car have no play but smoking. Suspect oil seal. Althow they where rebuilt 5 years ago by turbo dynamocs. So i just bought them second hand but don't know if i want to fit them now

You should have some play, like a little movement as the journal bearing is dry. Once the oil fills the bearing the shaft sort of floats in the oil. That however seems a bit much, if it can touch the sides that's not right.
