Morning gents.

I'm on the lookout for my childhood dream car, 300zx, needs to be a manual TT and needs to be 2+2 seater.

After a couple weeks of searching I've realised you get a better deal on the imports, but is there any reason to avoid a jap import?

I've seen a nice looking manual TT LWB, it's an import and has some rust on the offside rear arch but I'd be happy to have this repaired.

Also, the car is listed as a 1991 (imported in 2001) yet is on a G plate. Can this be right? G reg cars are usually 89/early 90. Is there anyway an imported car if manufactured in 91 could be on a G plate?

Thanks for any advice or tips in advance, all are welcome and appreciated.

Cheers

So yeah, travelled the 300 miles up north, fell in love, brought her home and safe to say I'm a happy chappy.

However!... There might be a problem... The car has aftermarket boost gauges and apparently the car is only running about 7psi boost...

And if I'm honest, I was a bit underwhelmed in the power of the car...

Is there something wrong? Or is this normal?

Thanks.

There is something wrong. But don't panic just yet it could be something simple. Your car is running a restricted or "safety" boost level. Your first step should be to have a diagnostic check to see what fault code exists. It may be wise to start a thread asking for someone in Kent or nearby that has a diagnostic reader (conzult, datascan etc) to help you out.

Thanks, I've done exactly that!

This is upsetting! But hopefully means she has much more to give ;)

The seller did include a consult diagnostic lead, but I don't have a computer with the right adapter pin thing.

Disappointed Rose did not tell you it was running on safety boost as they operate a Garage that knows these cars inside out.

I'm sure it won't be anything major and once it's sorted you can start loving it. Has cambelt been changed if not I'd get done, I did my own not as difficult a job as I expected to be honest . Took between 5 n 6 hrs but first time I'd changed one so not to bad ,1973 transam 7.5 litre for 17grand or stick with the old Nissan . I can't decide grrr

I thought he was going to look at a silver one, not their red one...

Thanks all.

Really hoping it's nothing serious... Can't sleep now.

There was a strong petrol smell when you boot it as well.

Cambelt was done in 2012. But the car has only done about 2000 miles since. If that!

Replace all the petrol hose you can find in the engine bay, it's quite common and 90% of time solves it.

My mistake Akita I thought it was the red one. Still not good the owner did not tell you the faults so lets get you sorted.

That would be good. Want this sorted as soon as I can. Feel gutted!

Tighten up any black petrol pipes in the engine bay and this should stop any leaks.

Yup - this.... Common problem as the fuel runs at quite a high pressure and the hoses/clips do work loose over the years.

And as said, it's running in safety boost - stock boost is circa 9psi, so something is not set right. However it has been hot of late and sometimes running on regular UL fuel in high ambient temperatures (especially on an imported car) *might* cause a little knocking. I said might - but try filling with super UL (Shell V-Power) and see if that makes a difference.

It's worth getting your car over to Jimmer in Bristol; for a proper service and once-over. He knows these cars inside out and will certainly diagnose and fix any issues.

Good luck with your new toy!

Thanks Richard.

. The clips look in good nick, all tight. Looks like they've been replaced quite recently as they're all new looking.

Jimmer... How do I get hold of this man? :-) sounds like we need a date!
