Put a s/h replacement fuel pump in my UK TT z32 the other day as mine was whining, car runs alot better now but I have a fuel gauge problem.

I had 1/4 of a tank when I replaced the pump, when I put the new pump in and reconnected the battery and started her up she went up to 3/4 full. Now as I've been driving it its been going up... I'm now showing over a full tank. I put 25 litres in and it hasn't moved.

Any ideas? is a jdm fuel pump sender unit different to a uk one?

You've trapped the sender.

Just remove the screws and re-position :)

Bit of update
so while on the dyno we discovered a few drops of oil under the car. A bit of investigation reveals the most likely culprit is a cam seal…. Annoying! So at some point I’ll have to pull the front of the engine off and install a new seal.

I’ve also been speaking to Brett at BDE and will be purchasing his now PS pulley for ATi crank pulley, which will resolve the issue of it spitting off its PS belt.

I’ve also been going through the datalogs of some of the drives I’ve had to identify the cause of the imbalance of fuelling between banks. While I’m not sure it’s totally the cause, I have found that the alternator is not keeping up with demand. While the pic shows voltage drop during a pull down to 13.06v, wider analysis identifies a direct correlation between the fuelling of the engine and the electrical systems being above or below 13.5v. So I’m going to have my alternator inspected, and if it’s performing as expected I’ll either look at having it uprated to 120amp (to offset the 24amp draw of the 525lph pump) or if that’s not possible I’ll look to upgrade to a 200amp unit from WPS or WOSP.

Time to reduce the under bonnet heat, didn’t want those horrible plastic vents so had proper louvres made at Cool Louvres in Crawley. Will drop off for paint tomorrow.

Very worst case you could fit slightly longer springs. As you know my was pretty low but I didn’t have problems with normal speed bumps etc. The biggest area you’re likely to have an issue is either the front of the exhaust, the Japspeed ones hang down a bit too much and the arch liners. You can modify them to stop the scraping though and it’s mostly a wheel fitment issue.
