Polish and wax are completely separate things and do a different job.

Wax wise depends how much effort you want to put in. Hard waxes are a pain but give better results.

For good results with minimum effort I use Poorboys black hole (it's a glaze) followed by Poorboys Nattys Blue liquid.

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Auto glym polish is pretty good but there is a bit of silicone in it. But there are many others that other ppl like.

I find AG SRP to be hopeless.

Menzerna do a variety of good grades which give excellent results with a DA polisher.

Topped off with a good wax (dodojuice supernatural is another fantastic wax) will give excellent results.

Like Alex, I have mixed feelings about Autoglym SRP. It's a fine "all in one" polish and provides limited protection; but it does not do any single thing very well, when compared to more specialist products.

Upon the advice of Peach - a highly respected detailer on here - I have used chemical Guys Jet Seal as a paint sealant with superb results. It's easy to apply and gives long lasting protection. Afterwards - say a week later and after washing the car once more, I like to apply a coat or two of wax. I have just discovered Valet Pro's "Beading Marvellous" and I am extremely impressed with it so far. Plus at circa £30 for a 250ml pot, it's good value as well.....

I've just ordered my second pot (3 cars to cover) - and after a couple of coats, water and grime just slides off. My work colleagues are often dazzled by my cars and always ask me how they stay looking so good....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Too late clay bared the whole car using meguairs quick detailer spray used 2 bottles wiped dry then applied polish . I thought clay bar was a kind of paint clean . What is paint cleaner thanks .

Clay pulls out solid deposits such as a small tar spots, tree sap, bird lime etc. Paint cleaner pulls out anything that may have stained and marks that the clay wouldn't be able to touch.

Correct!

If I'm doing a valet I start of with a snow foam and spray (never Jet) off, then power wash ( I use a commercial Hot pressure washer) then you can Wash, Clay, Paint clean, Polish and wax! Depending on the car paint condition.

The personal preference for product will vary depending on the budget and the car paint and condition, My choices vary from brand to brand whether it's TFR or a Wax but then I do Boats as well and only a few products crossover.

The application of claying and paint cleaning gives you as good a base as any to polish and then seal with a wax, It basically provides a great base for a long term shine, but shouldn't be performed too frequently.

i use armour all wax on both the zed and the range rover and the results are brilliant, it lasts around 10 washes or upto 6 months, which voted it as the best wax a year or 2 ago

I've been trying a couple of new products with pretty impressive results.

I have used Autobrite's Cherry glaze and also Hell Shine stage 2 polish and Hell shine Abyss carnuba wax.

All of them do a great job and very easy to put on and polish off.

I'm also impressed by Autobrite's snow foam and Purple Rain iron deposit decontaminator for the wheels.

They do a degreaser called Jaffa clean which is pretty useful in the door jambs and under the bonnet too.

The main problem with the evaluation of different product and trying to establish a real benchmark between them is you invariably are using the same base for test purposes. i.e. your car!

When each and every product you try is applied, the base line is always easier for the next one to improve on results, which is why I've started to use a base panel which is lightly mopped when ever I trial a new product (cleaner, Polish , wax)

these at least lets me establish the ease of use and of course final results, whether with a hand or machine application.

Of course, Snow foam and washes are a bit more obvious in their performance and effectiveness as you are removing a constant (with the addition of seasonal variances) i.e. road grime, Tar and air borne detritus.

To add to the above, different waxes and sealants work differently with different colours. Something like Collinite 476s hard wax is good on whites, but not so good on darker colours. Something like a Meguires Gold Class is better on darker colours and so on.

Some colours also work better with sealants rather than waxes.

Yeah, I'll be doing the same but at the moment I need to get her running, I only bought the wax because I'd be afraid I'd forget where I saw it:lol:

This sadly isn't for the zed yet, testing it put on my commuter car while the Zed's having a new engine fitted. If I get s good result I will defo order some more. Been meaning to try out a clay bar for ages and now I have a good polish and wax to use it with

In what order do you Detail your car?? wash , clay bar, wash?, polish and then wax?? or do you wash, clay bar, wax?

I rarely wet-wash my Z. It has about 5 or 6 layers of Zymol wax on it, generally only gets brake dust and road dust on it and some flies. I will wipe down after I've taken it out with Meguires Quick Detailer and a microfiber cloth. The bugs just wipe off. Takes me about 10 minutes. Means I can give it a wipe down in the garage, it stays dry...easy.

Wheels do get a wet wash though.

I tried some clay on it for a laugh a few months ago. I even did the lower half of one side. There was NOTHING on the clay! :D

Excellent tip I tested on the Z last night. If you get some wax on the black trim, rub it off with a pencil eraser. Works better on the smooth trim than the textured bits, as you might expect.

It'll be the first time I've used a clay bar but what I'm going to do is wash, dry, clay bar, wash, polish and then harley wax I ordered.... should hopefully look good. To be honest, the shine on my car is pretty good anyway as it is waxed every week, theres just a few rough patches where tar has stuck to the sides at the bottom of the doors. I've been told by my neighbour to expect it to look worse after the clay at first until I've built up the layers of wax again especially with it being a black car as any small scratches will be more apparent. Hopefully it will be worth the effort though :)

I use Valentine Concours Wax which I bought three years ago and still have one third of a tub left. It cost me £70 at the time (over £100 to buy it now) and its the best wax I have ever used. Did the tail gate and rear spoiler with it last night so will try to put a pic up later.

You don't need to wash it again after claying, if your using a good quick detailer while claying you're already cleaning it, proceed with a compound cleaner or go straight to polish and wax depending on the condition of the paint(chips, swirls, stripes etc)

And to you who used two bottles of detailer spray on one car; that's overkill...
