I think its about time I got my own Consult, I don't know much about it so any advice or guidance would be appreciated, including which version to buy and where from. I currently have windows 8 on my laptop.

Get the USB Consult lead from ebay .. it should come with Free ware programs as Conzult and ECU Talk and so on .. this will do for Most Owners ... However they do work with xp/vista/win7 .. Not sure about win8

The consult port is a wiring plug that's in the bonnet release area under the dash. Mine was tucked behind the kick panel near the fusebox.

The software has a lot of 'greyed out' functions as its called 'Free Conzult'

 

Anyway, I am getting a lot of port errors, I am assuming it is because I am using Windows 8, I have tried reinstalling and running it in compatibility mode but am having no luck. Does anybody know where I can either buy or download a version that will work with Windows 8?

Can't say I know about the windows 8 issues, but try ecutalk instead of consult free. It works for the ecu, and does datalogging.
