I don't know, there has to be something that can temporarily do that. Did the garage suggest anything? Try calling a few other local garages.

Red ex a run out and a higher base idle or something but I really dont know. Good luck mate :clover:

How old is the car? If it's an import that's pre 95, you can tell them that the car shouldn't even be subject to a cat test, since there's no exact match to your chassis number in the database.

thanks going to get some cat cleaner, i got the team leader tester, he could have taken the lower reading which was well below, frustrated

Fair enough! I also agree that the car may not be required to meet the emissions given it's age, I don't think mine was tested when last mot'd. Perhaps call another test station and find out if they would test the car on this.

thanks guys going to get the cat cleaner now, if it doesnt pass today, it has to be booked in for a full test again and then they could find something else, money making racket

Not quite that simple here as one company has a monopoly on this "service" and waiting lists are usually at least two months...

Wow wherever happened to free market economy, I take it its s government thing?

Good luck anyway how it goes through.

Even though its a 95, the 300zx is not on the emissions database and has to be done as a pre cat regardless, im sure one of our MOT gurus can confirm this, although Southern Ireland is probably a law unto itself lol

In the UK ANY car from Jul 95 onwards has to have a cat test regardless of whether its on the data base or not.

Cars up to June 95 that are not on the database can have a non cat test

I have a printed copy of an old thread on this very subject... I think it might have been by Paul C???

This one Pete

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?27060-MOT-emissions-test-on-a-zed-(cat-test)

This part, depends on the date of manufacture on Trish's zed

if the vehicle is between 1 aug 1992 & 31 july 1995 and an exact match is found in the Emission database, then a CAT test is done using the vehicle specific details

However, the Z32 is NOT in the emissions database, this means a NON-CAT TEST is carried out using the same values as pre 92 cars

dont know graham i cant find the log book but afaik its post 92 here, so if i disconnect the engine temperature coolant sensor? i just hate the way they keep the car at really high revs on this machine, I do realise they are trying to pass it

Its not on the logbook, its on the vin plate under the bonnet, seat belt tags if original, under the boot carpet and on the back of the plastic rear light covers, my zed shows a K plate, 1993, it is infact a 1990 according to the vin plate etc...

Removing the temp sender plug, will also likely make the engine run rich as the ecu needs the signal to adjust the fuel when up to temp.

thanks Graham over here its any car after 1st Jan 1994 this is what NCT hand book says

for any vechicle registered on or after 1st Jan 1994 the lambda value at 2,500 rpm or at a speed specified by the vechicle manufacturer, is NOT 1+.03 OR within the vechicle manufatcurers recommendations

I am going to try the vacuum thing go for a good drive, say a few prayers, and go back for last chance saloon at 9.15pm, wish i was 40 years younger, i could wear a mini skirt and offer him a ride.....in my Z
