It is with heavy heart that I am putting my Z of over 12 years' ownership up for sale. I have had many great times with this car but I am thinking of consolidating my two cars down to one as I have less time to give the Z the care and respect it needs, and am looking for something more modern and practical. The Z is overall in very good shape but I have listed all the bad points I can think of below. There's tonnes of service history, receipts, and all MOT certificates since ownership are included.

SPEC

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Series 1, Japanese Import, LWB, myself the only private UK owner, Twin Turbo, Targa Top, Manual [converted from automatic], originally gunmetal grey.

All usual UK-conversions done, like UK speedo, rear fogs, delimiter.

G587 TVO

MOT: expires 14th May 2015

MILEAGE: 142k miles

Located in Leicester

SERVICE HISTORY

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All receipts for work carried out, many receipts for parts and modifications, and all MOTs are available dating back to start of ownership.

GOOD POINTS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The bodywork is largely in very good condition after having a respray in 2005 and a new bodykit in 2009 - the occasional stone chip or light scratch does little to detract from this.

Brand new windscreen in 2008.

New battery has barely done 1,000 miles.

The interior is mainly in very good condition after having the seats and dash/door cards retrimmed in 2009/2010. Some other parts of trim are looking a bit tired and need re-gluing, and there's a smallish tear on driver's seat.

The suspension all round, and front brakes are all aftermarket and have only done a couple of thousand miles or so since fitment.

The engine is a very good runner and pulls especially well in 3rd and 4th gears, partly thanks to the N/A Differential modification. Just the occasional whiff of blue smoke on overrun after hard boost due to suspected PCV valves being slightly different spec (replaced in 2007).

The engine and turbos were rebuilt in 2007.

Car only covered on average 3,000 miles per year under current ownership.

BAD POINTS

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electrics are in generally good condition, but after standing for about a week with no use the battery will not start the car. Also gives

Windscreen demist works intermittently (either perfectly or not at all!)

Boost controller is in working order but suspect there may be a fault or electrical short - possibly causing the above (I was planning on going with a manual boost controller).

Front nearside tyre can scrub briefly on the inside when taking hard bumps/corners fast due to width of front tyre (I was planning on going down to 235 from 245).

Exhaust body chirps at times when cornering hard left (catching on something underneath?)

Cruise control never worked (I've never been bothered!).

Small patch of paint bubbling near offside rear wheel.

The three aftermarket gauges are out of order (oil press. never been hooked up, and the needles of the other two have snapped over time).

Front washer motor needs replacing (replacement included with sale but not been tested).

As with a lot of targa tops a bit of rain manages to get in and drip onto either passenger or driver seat. I cover the Z up when a lot of rain is expected.

Running temps can get high when stuck in traffic for a while on a hot day (possibly due to removal of fan shroud).

Rusty sills - driver's side is very bad particularly at the rear. Passenger's side isn't too bad and can be jacked up using the standard roadside jack. Some bad rust at the offside-rear corner behind the rear bumper. Also two holes either side of the boot floor.

I know it wouldn't be up to me but I'd really like to see her enjoying the road for a while to come and not broken up for spares and aftermarket parts. Bearing in mind the MOT is about to expire I'm happy to let her go for far lower than I'd have wanted for her perhaps a few years ago, even though she's barely done 1,000 miles since passing the last MOT, and so I'm looking for £2,600 o.v.n.o. Please PM me if you're interested or have any questions.

It took me roughly a week on my own to weld it all up except 2 very small pieces.

If I had an assistant to cut rust out and grind back to bare metal while I was making the repair plates I could have halved that

Ah, I may not have seen your work after all then. A while ago someone sent me a link to a welding forum, where repairing his zed was his first welding attempt. Can't remember who it was now, but your username rang a bell. Apologies for mixing you up.

Do you have a link to a project thread showing how involved yours was?

Thanks mate. I've had years of pleasure and adventure with her and now it's time to move on. They are amazing cars.

So you got it in the end Stu?

End of an era Dave, but at least she will live on :thumbup1:

Yeah, collecting her tomorrow before the MOT runs out. Spent most of today coming up with a shopping list of bits to get it back in mint condition. :)

Congratulations Stu, welcome aboard. Maybe a bit of a project, but a starting spec that will end up with a fine Z.

That's the plan mate, it's what I wanted all along, a project I can have to get it back to it's best. It's a shame it's rot we're dealing with, but the rest of the ones I've viewed were all rotten to some degree too, but while still being near standard and auto. This one has more than enough to make dealing with the rust worthwhile, and I'm glad I'm getting the chance to give her a shot. So fingers crossed for me and her please guys! :)

Good luck with it Dan.

Dave - I hope you don't miss it too much mate. I hope you stick around too.

also an awesome colour...... my favourite colour for the zed.

good luck with it and enjoy ....

You know what sucks, I didn't even remember it was there lol

:slap:

Yer jacket's in the post by the way mate. ;)

Well, just got her home now, loved the drive back even with her faults. Pulls harder in fifth than my Skyline did a gear or two lower! I'll get a project thread up soon documenting my progress of restoring her. Thanks again Dave, a pleasure. :)
