Gearbox

Got a problem with my Z- Its an auto! It runs fine but i CANNOT shift the gear-stick into "P" and "1", doesn't matter how hard i try. I can still shift it into N, D and R as normal. There isn't any other problem with the gearbox except for this and the car runs perfect???

I am worried as i can't afford a rebuild:(

I will be grateful for any kind of assistance

Ammar, couple of questions;

Does the button on the side of the gearlever operate OK still?

If it does - when you put your foot on the footbrake (with the ignition on, or engine running), can you hear a solenoid click?

If not - if you push down the little red lever on the front of the gear selector (down at the base of the lever, little red button with a long stalk that you can depress) at the same time as pushing the usual button on the side in, can you move it into Park and/or 1?

If you can, then it's the gear lever lock solenoid, or the switch connected to the footbrake.. If not, then it's most likely a problem with the mechanism inside the gearlever thats operated by the button on the side.. (or something internal, but that's less likely)

Thanks Aaron - Top Man!

It must be the gear lever lock solenoid or the switch connected to the foot brake. Going to Jeff next week so it should be fine.,

Cheers
