you have to remove the front wheels, then the rear part of the wheel arch trim, and look about inside there...

or do a search on the forum.. wink.gif

there is a rubber pipe with u-bend at the bottom into a black square filter box

the bend and box are the culprits...

easy

1. Get a JWT chip

2. Get a HackSaw

3. Chop the Dam AIV hoses off

4. Plug them

5. No more AIV gurgle Yippee smile.gif

aha... brings me back to some previous posting i made on ttnet....

you can disable the AIV's at any time, you dont need to change to the jwt chip for that.

i spent a while checking it out, and haven't gotten around to doing mine yet.

hehe

Any excuse not to get a JWT hey Craig wink.gif

perhaps you should explain there uses, why disable something that was obviously put there for a reason?????

i mean what does aiv stand for?

A.I.V Air Inlet Valve.

What is it Good For :

Nothing wink.gif hehe

Seriously : It is there to help pass cold emmisions tests in countrys that have one - to the best of my knowledge i haven't heard of cold emmisions test in this country. they were for Cali in the states and some of the european countrys with strict emmisions regs - i think Henri has mentioned before the Switzerland is very strict on that sorta thing.

What does it Do.

Well it Inlets Air from outside via a Valve wink.gif into the Cats this helps to eliminate unburnt fuel in the system and purify the exhaust stream thus reducing emmisions, They only work at idle and when cold and were eliminate in 93.

Whey Disable them then ...

Good question - no real HP gains but stops pissing off problems such as the HONK. Also if you can be bother you can save the weight by removing all the piping air boxes and shit

But Craig sez that you can disable them even if you dont have the JWT.

Well Craig is wrong.... heheh just kiding.

Yes you can but you wont go as fast as you dont have the BEST chip out there wink.gif Flame proof shit at the ready ....

Does that help ?

Nico, took me zed for a day out on the track couple of days ago, after a long hard thrashing pulled into pits to cool down, gurgle noises heard then coolant started dripping out behind inner arch cover where these valves are, after 2 mins it all stopped, is there any connection here with the valves ???

Cheers, Smithy, I.O.M

Smithy,

Yup the Gurgle would be the AIV's for sure, Nothing to worry about that is what they are meant to do.

The Dripping would be Coolant that is the location of the emergency coolant release valve - you probably over heated a bit thrashing it - nothing to worry about too much for daily driving however i would look at improving your cooling system next before you go to the track again mate.

Check you coolant temp closely next time you give her a good thrasing.

p.s if you wanna disconect your AIV's wihout physicaly damaging them for future reconnection and you dont want the JWT chip i think from inspection of the wiring you can just unplug their actuator wires from the ECU - they shouldn't send any data back the other way and as long as they are closed at the time i can't see how they will work again... I could be wrong tho as i have never tried it this is all hypothetical for now .... untill some one proves it one way or the other!

Huh !! JWT chips are for common people lol

i was told by an extreemly reliable person

that the jwt is very very very conservative and then i was told by this other person that the MINES ECU was quit possibly the best thing you could do to a z (oh i was talking ot myself lol)

>>i was told by an extreemly reliable person

>>that the jwt is very very very >>conservative

Very True the JWT dumps a lot of Fuel at WOT....It is a safe chip to have!

MINES are better HP wise if you can afford to get them retuned Properly every time you Mod the car (and for UK fuel) and dont mind welding a piston ot two smile.gif

Nico, aha!

I got that all the time (the smell of coolant at nearside rear wheel arch). I couldn't work out what the hell it was. I took it to a gargage and they told me it must be my rear shocks leaking!! Anyway, that

explains it. It was probably connected with the dodgy radiator I had (the one that blew up with over pressurization thanks to faulty rad. cap). Hasn't done it since I got the new rad (under warranty ! :-) ).

cheers.
