Now looking for a replacement drivers side cat

Looking on ebay there are a lot of people selling new ones for around £130, however they all say ..

All European (EU) cars (outside of the UK) must be fitted with a Type Approved catalyst, and all UK cars registered after March 2001(Y Reg) require a Type Approved catalyst. For this reason we will need your vehicle registration number before we can process any orders for catalytic converters. If we don't have your VRM we will have to cancel this order.

Is this some sort of scam? Why do i have to give my registration to buy a cat? Surely if their product is legal then it doesnt matter what car i fit it too?

Just a legality. I am pretty sure that the cats on the mid-section are all the same. UK cars obviously have pre-cats also.

Just tell them that there are no 300zx's built after that date......... so it doesn't apply....... They cannot supply an incorrect one!

The approval on CAT emissions changed and you can be heavily fined if you fit a non conforming CAT to a car built after that date.....

Euro 3, 4 and I think now 5........ As emissions get stricter so does the tolerances / approval on the cats........

I got warned when I was at Euro's to check the year of the car and not to sell a non type approved one for a newer vehicle or there is a heavy fine.......

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
