I was under my car today, tightening the belts slightly and I noticed a slight leak from my steering rack. Has anyone removed their rack and changed the seals? Was it successful?

Any recommendations on the best place to get the seals from?

Hi, yes I had the same issue as you have described.

At the time my motor was out the car so the rack removal was straight forward. I bought the kit on Ebay from a seal company which was around $30 3 years back. The kit did not come with the 2 gaitors/rubber boots, those I got elsewhere. The job is easy as long as to have a big bench vice and have a normal selection of hand tools, no special tool required.

My rack is still leak free after 3 years. I cannot give any advice on rack removal if your motor is still in the car although I am sure someone will clear that up shortly.

If you're interested I have a steering rack in good condition that I want rid of...

I bought it to replace mine but never got around to it... you could do a full service / refurbish on it..

I'll have to confirm but but as long as MyHermes is OK with the size you can have it for £30 delivered if you're interested.

(you'll have to replace one of the outside pipes as it was already damaged when I got it).

Thanks for the offer, but I'm probably going to have a go at repairing my existing one first.

Thanks for the reply, I think I'll give it a go. I've found a guide that claims it's not too difficult to remove the rack.

Would you sell the uj off the rack, it looks in good condition, I need one with no play and no tight spots

Sure it's the rack itself and not a hose or connection above?

I was in a rush the other day, so I'm not 100 percent sure yet, but it did look like the rack. I'm going to take the gaiter off and check for sure when I've got a bit of spare time.
