My luck has tacken me tempory off course and because if this some of my emidiate plans have had to change. Basically i was due this trip home to drop my car off in notts at marks place to get my exhaust repalced along with my new tubs ect.and a tonn of other stuff to be done and fitted at the same time.now due to the fact that my company has just lost its contract i could well be facing redundandcy in thirty days.so big hold on the big spend.even though i have loads off car stuff on my wordrobe.

anyways becuse my test origanal test pipe are blowing .and my mot is now pending.i thouht id have a look at replacing the exhaust myself.i have a four bolt 3" dps that should bolt on with a little bit of dremmleing on one side i believe.but my concern is snapping bolts that have been there for the last two centries plus. Let alone anything else that gets in the way.

now should i try to spray them with wd.or get the tubs and exhaust warmed up. Would this help.or make worse.any guides on what to do or not would be a great help.are they a pig to get too.and do they have a habbit of snapping.cas if they do .then im best just getying my car sorn tell latters.but if not ill have a go ang get the other stuff when works sorted. Cheers

Oh mate sorry to hear that, you've had a bad run of luck recently, I honestly hope it improves for you.

Working on exhausts I imagine is like suspension parts and a total pain. The bolts have been; tight, then bloody hot, then covered in dirt, for a long time!

All I can suggest on this thread mate :clover:

Spray them with plus gas, leave for a while, then try them.

If that fails they'll need some heat.

Job wise fire your CV in to the usual agencies. (Clyde Recruit, nuwave, seamariner etc)

Its a pig of job to do. Apparently it easier on non standard downpipes. I attempted mine sometime ago, and was defeated by 1 bolt, (cant remember which side now).

Good luck on the job front.

I didn't think it was bad at all just fiddly. It's the luck of the draw as to how those turbo elbows will behave. If your lucky after a good soak in WD or similar they will wind right out. If your unlucky you will snap studs etc leaving you with a new problem. Can you not make a temporary repair, gum gum or exhaust wrap for the mot which will last a little while. I know it's not ideal but it's not an ideal scenario. If your not mechanically confident you could cause more head aches than it's worth when a simple temporary repair in this case may be adequate.

As lexx says use plus gas and soak them in it the night before. Then as you undo them do it slowly and then tighten them up a bit loosen tighten loosen etc. Hope that makes sense.

Yes it does and good tip.loose then tight then loose a bit more etc.thanks.

Also just to add, I'm assuming your using a decatted down pipe? If so, there is a chance that fitting them could reveal that your turbo rear oil seals are failing, at which point you may or may not create a situation when it won't pass due to excessive smoke. This is how mine looked after being decatted.

I'm not saying it WILL happen just that it's a factor to consider. I genuinely think you should consider a temp repair to pass the mot and do the down pipes properly when the cash is there. It's about solving the current minor issue short term not about ticking later boxes earlier if you get what I'm saying. From what your telling us you don't need extra headaches or expense right now that a more permanent solution could bring.

The studs will snap that's a dead cert there to old and brittle to take any force. Just done them changing my clutch and everyone snapped with heat and wd and clutch fluid on for a week

Had to replace them all :(
