In short, how can I check whether it's woeking right? In the past, I've been told it didn't seem to be working correctly. Anyway, it's never really been an issue but something I knew I'd one day look at. That day is today since I'm off work.

 

It's a greddy Profec B-Spec 2 I have.

 

How do I know if it's working right? Do I simply turn all the settings right down and see if it boosts less?

 

 

For info, I bought a new control unit for it on eBay - don't know if it works or not but need to know how to check it first.

it "seems" your base boost is set at approx 23.5 psi.

Not sure how much boost it was mapped for and what kind of turbos you have (greddy TD-series ?), but it seems a tad high.

 

As said before, best is to just bypass the solenoid or verify if the NO (normally open port) is indeed open/ blow through and connect it temporarily back to the NO port and disconnect the electrical connector of the solenoid.

This should give you base boost as well.

 

if it's a (lot) lower then 23.5 psi, then most likely your boost controller is shot. (I have seen quite a few problems with the Profec B S2's, as in where the main unit doesn't control the solenoid anymore)

Oh, what do you mean as I don't fully understand:

and in your first post you said you have just bought the Greddy Profec on ebay ?

 

How can it have been like that for years when you have just bought the unit ?

 

Or did it have a different boostcontroller before ?

Sorry to have confused things mate.

 

I have had the boost controller for years and it never seemed to work tight. Years ago Jeff had tried to tune it but hadn't seemed to work at the time. So I bought a new controller recently to see if that was the problem and what I've been trying is on the new controller (original solenoid.

 

I was getting around 18 psi when the NO port was connected and the boost seemed very strong. When I change it to NC port, although the boost is higher, it doesn't feel as strong or as good.

 

I'll switch it back to the NO port and disconnect the solenoid to confirm that figures but I'm gonna guess at 18psi or there abouts.

 

I also tried simple blowing through the solenoid to see if the NC port was letting air through (car turned off) and it didn't. Blowing through com comes out of the NO which seems right.

Lymon... I changed the NC port over to the NO port and took it on a quick run. It was just over 16 psi.

 

I think I'll send the controller off to be checked out.

I've sent the controller and solenoid off to be checke out. I've been trying to look at how it had been connected and I'm still thinking that might be where the problem lies. The issue is that I can see / follow the hose pipes fully.

 

The NC port on the solenoid is definitely correct as I can follow that and it goes to a pressure source (IC piping).

 

The COM ports are definitely going to the external wastegates but I think they're going to the sides rather than the top.

 

I can't get to the wastegates properly to check when the top of them is connected to but I'm thinking that both the top and side port of the wastegates are technically going to a pressure source if that makes any sense

As shown in the picture I posted, the top port of the greddy external wastegates needs to be connected to the boostcontroller solenoid (COM side), the secondary/lower port connects directly to the pressure side of the turbo (as close to the turbo as possible, before intercooler)

Yeah I know mate, what would happen in the scenario that I thinks happened? In short, they're probably the wrong way round on the wastegate.

 

Think it'll be a hard job to get them swapped due to the position of the wastegates
