Manual conversion cost

Can anyone that has recently done a transmission conversion give me an estimate of how much it costs? I'm wondering if it would be worth buying a clean automatic for the right price.

Also, would I have trouble getting the parts (presumably shipped from UK)?

Cheers

I payed £575 for every part needed from a forum member, but I fitted new clutch at around £250, rebuilt clutch master cylinder at around £70, fitted new slave cylinder at around £30, new braided clutch line at I think £20, had prop uj replaced and balanced at £80. Done it myself so no labour costs, not a hard job, but ideally you want a ramp to do it properly.

Alright, definitely sounds like it could be worth it. Is it a particularly difficult job? Looks cramped under there!

Me and a friend did the conversion on my old black Zed on his drive, using ramps and axle stands... there's not a lot of room at all doing it that way!

Took us 4 days in total, but a lot of that was spent trying to get the auto bushing out of the crank...

Pretty straightforward job, really. Just hard work if you can't get the car up high.

It's cramped in the engine bay, however replacing the gearbox means you don't really have to be in there that much! If you are mechanically minded it's not a bad job, changing the pedals are a bit of an arse but it soooo worth it

Adding to Baz's comment here: take the instrument cluster out when changing the pedals as it makes getting the fifth bolt for the clutch pedal in an absolute doddle!

I didn't change the brake pedal - I cut the auto pedal down and fitted a manual rubber instead :thumbup1:

i did this a few weeks ago with no proper ramp just little ones and so props but the gear box I got has a leaking input shaft so I have to remove the box again to fix it. deffo have some one with you when you remove the autobox it pretty heavy. its not over hard but its not much fun at the same time

Just be sure to have all the parts you need prior to starting job, make sure you have good working master and slave, good flywheel ( I had mine refaced) new clutch, flywheel spigot bearing, all bolts etc, nothing worse than starting a job only to find you forgot some bolts etc.

as said, it's so worth the effort when it's done, it's a whole different car with a manual box.
