I've a week off work, so need to fix a few things with my zeds

First is on the was home yesterday in the na and the speed speedo suddenly stopped working, if the steering goes steering when heavy as well so could be fun to fix any suggestions?

Mainly want to work on my swb, and I need some advice on its boost issue, took it for a drive and think I've worked out a pattern, it boosts 1 bar through 1-3 gear, but under load in 4th 5th (like when I was on the dyno) it only reaches 0.5 bar, but if it's still accelerating from 3rd so under less load it boosts properly. Can't test 4th into 5th on public roads. Anyone have any ideas, thought it was the boost controller but why would load affect it?

The other thing is a creak knock from the drivers wheel, had it in the air at work couldn't find any play in anything,

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Drivers wheel : could be anything from a worn strut top to shagged bushes - what suspension set up does it have?

Speedo and PAS : The issues are one and the same. The PAS is speed sensitive, you're got a dry solder joint on the control board for the speedo so it'll intermittently can stop working - when it does, the PAS doesn't have a speed reading as it takes a direct feed from the dash. There's a how-2 on fixing it if you're dab hand with the soldering iron!

No idea on the boost issue.

I've had problems with the na's dash before, didn't realise the pas worked through it, assumed it would read from the ecu.

The swb has meister r coilovers, they don't look that old, no play in anything I could see when it was on the ramp.

for the boost on the road, there's no reason why you can't do a 4th gear pull, just start lower down. My bet is that it's detting, so maybe proceed with caution!

Detting? As far as I can see the knock sensors connected, and there's no error codes, ( it's got the na's r-vit connected.) when it did it on the dyno it ran really rich, detting would be lean wouldn't it?

The settings on the boost controller did look high for its lack of boost...

Isn't there a thread where your boost issues were covered a short while ago?

Are the boost solenoids connected?

Code 34 and detected knock are 2 completely different things.

What map is it running?

Just because it's rich, doesn't mean there's no detonation. Fuelling AND timing are important.

The creeking could be the front tie rod connection to the lower suspension arm, at the point where the lever is in the picture. The point that the bolts connect to the arm can sometimes crack.

There was a thread but I didn't get anywhere, and had a couple of other things to ask.

I'll start looking tomorrow see if there's anything written on the ecu or chip. And look into the boost solenoids, might be a stupid question but does the zeds not go into a limp mode if it detects detention ? Thought that was the code 34 ,

Code 34 is for a faulty knock sensor or associated loom.

If the knock sensor detects knock, even spuriously, then car will use the knock maps and safety boost temporarily.

You need to know exactly what map is in that ECU. Can't always rely on stickers. Pull the file.

Unfortunately I don't have anything that can read the map, got the consults at work and my r-vit at home, if I removed the ecu and send it to you is it something you could look at?

It's definitely a chipped ecu, but there's nothing useful written on it, the ice and pipework are shocking glad I'd already choosen to replace them, it has a boost solenoid one side but it's disconected,??? the boost controller controllers solenoids solenoids is fitted with mismatch pipes and joins this is going to be a bigger project then it was supposed to be...

Sounds like it's been put together badly and is going to need attention to get it running as it should be. Saying that, if it's just a case of installing the boost controller properly and ensuring it's running safely, that'll be easily rectified.

I can analyse the ECU if you require it.

I've now got it boosting constantly to 13psi, but any higher and the faults back, although it's not the most stable boost,

I noticed as well ( because I had the bungs in the exhaust) that when the fault occurs there's a clicking behind the dash? It's not coming from the controller, and the solenoid is up by the battery, what could becoming the noise? It sounds mechanical but it's only when the boost is playing up, surely there's no boost pipes in the car? Or is it the solenoid is on the way out?

Fingers crossed but I believe the boost issues resolved, can move onto the na's lack of speedo now...

Found a couple of split vacuum lines, and the boost controller was taking its signal from an odd place, so connected properly, and reset the controller, set it up from scratch and now it's boosting Everytime, full 14.7 psi, low 10psi, although I ended up with a gain of 8? Seems low but it was definitely the best setting. Have to say this zed's the fastest thing I've driven, hopefully I'll have the important parts replaced and have it sorted for totb, can't wait to see what it's capable of...
