just wondering at what power level does a 300zx become just to much for the public road as in its just not usable on the street just wondering what people think

I have just done some googling to justify my claim that the car feels as quick as my 600 bike did. Well the numbers would call me a liar/idiot but, the big difference is gearboxes. The bike has straight cut sequential gears, the in gear pull in third from 40mph to the red line probably is comparable to a 600 but it will lose on shift times. I saw an incredible claim from bmw, it was a 0-100mph time of 10 seconds or so from a 300hp car... but it had a 7 speed auto box.

I maintain compared to the heavy and slushy 911 turbo, the probably faster but NA GT3RS, mine pushes me into the seat harder.

I would get a bigger turbo than that. There's a post by gregDupree comparing tubs with breather mods, it makes an interesting read.

Fyi I went from stock tubs to 3071's. Wouldn't replace them with anything but an EFR setup now

would a bigger turbo be more laggy tho wouldn't the gt600r give spool up

sound like a fun car to drive with that power you have now am sure it would make me smile. but i want to push on the gas pedal and feel like am welded to the seat

Find and read the post ;) I would link for you but I'm on my mobile

am looking for it as we speak. the turbos you have nwo are they laggy as hell and all power right at the top of the band ?

here are you turbos in action if you watch the vid you can see them kick in and the wheels spin have a watch

i have looked but there is loads about Dupree cant find the post you talk of

Here you go, key words are breather mods and head work. No, I have less lag than stock turbos. Look at where I get peak torque, and ask those who have driven my car (Noel and Jimmer)

to clear thing up isn't lag when you on and off the gas the time it takes to come back on song. and turbo threshold ie were the turbo starts to make its power ie 4000rpm is that correct just so we are talking about the same thing here ? will have a read now

what did the remap cost you ?

I've not long returned from mapping a Zed with Z1 GT600r turbos. 489.7hp & 471.2lb·ft at the wheels with 1.25 bar peak boost pressure. Would easily make 520+whp with more boost. Fully built engine by Jimmer/PowerZed (years ago), JWT500 cams, still on stock IC pipework. Emerald ECU, must have pressed the sequence [CTRL+P, Enter......... Enter] at least 500 times during the last couple of days :headvswal

The midrange surge was "impressive".

The other week I mapped another Jimmer-built Zed on GTX2863 turbos and that made 569.4bhp & 577lb·ft at the flywheel with 1.6 bar, stock cams, SMICs, dual intake (under nose panel). Rethink the IC setup, blow-through MAF, short intakes, PowerZed headwork and I'd expect to see 2.5 bar out of those turbos. Expensive though, and a complete waste of time unless you're prepared to run proper boost (1.6 bar minimum, 2+ bar preferable).

i could live with 520 at the wheels I think, that's the max psi the gt600 will make then

i would get a 2860 rather than 2560 any day of the week. same (better?)response, more efficient, more power potential

was reading on a us site about some one saying they were like a light switch the gt675 no power then all at once.

With breather mods?

How big can you go before you have to notch the darn chassis rails?

Up to gt28 will fit depending on actuator setup and manifold used. Eg Msp/ams are good for fitment

What's the budget? This kind of discussion needs boundaries set in reality, otherwise copy Jaffa's spec.

I didnt say to be fair

due to not knowing what I really want to do I don't know how much to spend so just getting the info for now lets say I wanted 550 at the wheels what spec would you recommend

Completely depends on the budget.

It can be done on a pair of GTX2860s through a single MAF, forged engine, 2.5" pipework, 1.7bar. I also dialled the cams in on that particular car. Made 613bhp at the fly. Would have made more with a dual intake and decent actuators as opposed to the 10psi ones that shipped with the turbos.

I'm not sure what it would be like on a Zed.

But one of my mates used to have a 515bhp Scooby which he had spent 20 odd grand on.

The speed of this thing was unreal, but it was so horrible to drive it really wasn't usable on a day to day basis.

seems there really Is a limit then were the car would be rubbish on the road am really torn on what to do and what power to go with

Completely depends on the budget.

with this set up and be honest would it make a crap road car I wont be using it daily but don't want it to be a pig, also if fitted race logic traction control would this make the power usable as a road car. sound like I should be aiming for lower power

500 to the wheels with comparable torque level is a very serious car.

Why wouldn't I be honest, it's all the same to me :wack:

The owner loves it, he uses it for drifting and needs good response.

I'm not a fan of driver AIDS :)
