Just a quickie, does either Scantech, Datascan or Consult recognise a misfiring cylinder?

A more prolific user will give you a more detailed response as far as possible fault codes are concerned, as I'm not sure that any of them will "recognise" a misfire. However, I know that with features on the conzult, such as the cylinder drop test, it's possible to aid a diagnosis of a misfire.

Not as such I don't believe.

 

You could possibly turn each cylinder on and off to see what the revs drop is like (only one at a time or the engine will cut out).

Alternatively, you can do a power balance test in conzult which does it for you and it tells you how much each cylinder drops.

 

Or if you don't have those kind of programs, you can pull the coil pack plug one by one and see if there much of a Rev drop or not. Then if one hard drops the Rev, that could be your cylinder. To rule out the coil pack itself, you could swap it with another and see if the same thing happens
