Siezed Engine..........................

Had a 300 towed in today as the guy said it wouldn`t start due to an electrical fault after driving through a puddle.

Basically the car was just giving a loud click on cranking, sounded like starter or battery. Stuck the boost pack on it but still nothing.

Anyway after a bit of searching and digging found the problem, 1" of water in both plenium`s!! The guy had driven through what he thought was a puddle but turned out to be a 3ft puddle!

So what damage are we looking at?, engine sounds siezed and i ain`t no mechanic so me mate is having a butchers but doesn`t look good.

What is the worst that could have happened, bent rods etc or just plain siezed?

I drove through a Lake Michigan in me Soup Bob and it struggled to start again. Once started and it was not happy I ran it for about two hours to get shot of the water and it was fine.

This situ however does not sound to good!

Sorry mate, I'm no techie either so I can't really help.

wouldn't have thought it would seize like that, might be just full up with water. Try taking spark plugs out and cranking it to get it out. If not bent conrods and valves are likely.

Taken all the plugs out and tried cranking it, still the same.

Getting a spark to the plugs Bob?

Get the coil pack off and earth it (plug) on the engine somewhere then get someone to turn that baby over. Check for the spark.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to sound like I'm teaching you to suck eggs, you know what I mean! LOL :D

Try it anyway.

Is this for real?

If he's hydraulisized the engine then the consequences can be severe:

Bent rods, damaged crank etc, etc.

Water does not compress like air therefore something must give, that being the weakest link, and that is the rod itself.

I certainly hope it isn't this bad, try taking all the plugs out and turning the engine over by hand - if water comes out of the bores, or it won't turn at all - expect the worse.

Tim

yup, seen it many times.

looking at total engine rebuild.

we had a brand new S class do it a couple of years back when we had flooding. The customers insurance company paid for a brand new engine - just a thought.

Probably engine has gone "hydraulic"....may have bent the con rods. I f there's that much water in the engine.

Chris

Is there an echo in here?

Hmm, isn't that what I said?

:D:D sorry TIM lol

If it's not turning over with the plugs out then there's something seriously nasty happened. Even with bent rods it should turn over. The crank could perhaps have taken a battering.

Whoops !

Did anyone say Hydraulic??

LOL

If engine does not turn with plugs out, big problems are afoot.

Is/was there any water in combustion chambers?? An endoscope will help look down to see any aqua....

IF you can get the engine to turn (with plugs out), have a look to see if any pistons are not travelling up the bores as much as the others or as much as the marks in the cylinders from the piston rings..

Does look as if a con-rod has bent so bad it prevents the crank from turning though...:( Which in turn means crank journal has bent. DOH. New bottom half at least...

Sorry...

Robert.

are you sure its not just the starter motor packed up. can you turn it by hand Bob.

Thanks for replys guys, engine is solid with the starter and plugs out. Tried turning it on the flywheel but still solid.

Anyone got an engine !

Bob

Crank snapped??...or may be gone hydraulic......AGAIN...lol

Sorry Tim...couldnt resist another pop...:D

Bob, I think Anders (on here) was saying recently that he still had an engine for sale.
