Morning all, I am going to re install my knock sensor and remove the resistor bypass, now the question is , as I do not want to pull the upper and lower Plenum so access the stock location , where else can it be mounted for best effect, Or alternatively if the standard knock sensor is poor, can I mount a better sensor that will still talk to my ECU and access knock maps if for example my MAF suddenly fails ?, Im thinking of a similar sensor to that which is used during Dyno Mapping sessions.

Thanks

There was a discussion on TT.net on this with some alternative locations for the det sensor:

There are pros and cons in relocation, further discussed on TT.net:

Standalone ECU for proper knock control. OEM system a waste of time, the sensor however is fine.

For simplification terms then, ie de cluttering it's acceptable in your opinion to bin the stock knock sensor and it's associated wiring and bypass it's function?

I posted the OEM timing map showing the area of active knock sensing a couple of years ago, basically high load below 3200rpm, which is short of peak torque even at stock boost. It's very basic in execution, adequate for your average owner of a brand new 300zx with a standard engine & set up.

As for a blanket "get rid of your knock sensor" approach, it should be based on a car-by-car basis.
