Ten of the Best (TOTB), is a performance road car event run by Straightliners Ltd, aimed at finding the best all round car and drivers in Europe. Handling, top speed and a 1/4m drag strip are used to determine the best of the best, Ten Of The Best!

All cars that compete in our main road competition class are road legal, taxed, tested and insured. There is also a new "pro-drag class" for the ultimate drag specific cars. Many of the cars that compete at TOTB are modified, some to the extreme. Many of the entrants have built and modified their own vehicles, while others represent the cream of the crop from the Tuners and Garages that specialise in the types of cars entered to compete.

Points are awarded in each of the three events overall, making it extremely difficult to score points in all events, unless the car and driver are on top form!

The Pro-Drag class will have its own shootout final and trophy, with regular head to head runs during the event.

Individual classes are also used to determine class trophies:

FWD (front wheel drive)

RWD (rear wheel drive)

4WD (four wheel drive)

The teams who take part are also battling it out for the TOTB team Trophy, a highly contested piece of silverware.

Ten of the Best brings together modern high tech and high spec cars, along with high power retro classics, giving all a chance to show their prowess on the day. Entrants come from most of the UK and European car clubs and groups, along with individual entries and invited Tuner cars.

The engine is out, typical for this time of year before TOTB :wack:

Bespoke tubular exhaust manifolds are being constructed. Exciting stuff!

Engine spec has been decided on. No more stock VG.

Turbo frame has been decided on, actual model I'm not so sure yet.

Kind of wishing mine was mapped again

A single task shouldn't stop you from entering a competition in 6 weeks' time :wack:

agreed, I wish I only had the one task left!

My prediction is that only Ian and me will be taking part in 300s cos nobody else will be fully built, mapped tested and ready:scared:

Bob will be there but not on the 300 team:yes:

Havent seen Bob on the forum for a while now is he ok Pete?

Yes he is his usual grumpy self.:innocent:

Hes doing a sprint this sat at Castle Combe.:thumbup1:

Does the event ticket cover boot camp and camping? I'm still planning on coming, my 300 can take part although it's not as far along As it was supposed to be, I'm toying with the idea of trying the 370 out.

Yes the £100 competitor ticket covers Boot Camp , camping and the event proper.

Pah. My car made it to 7th in the RWD 1/4 and 4th in the RWD flyers after being finished at PowerZed on Saturday and mapped between Leicester and Elvington. The work was only started a week before TOTB, with the body of that work consisting of a manual conversion and custom turbo fitment, all-new blow-through MAF setup. Even if the main build isn't finished, I have a 570bhp setup to fall back on and a few stock engines in reserve :D

Entry on Friday night, boot camp, main event and camping for the competing vehicle. Plus entry and camping for a support vehicle & driver.

More points for a one-make team, so take the TT

The boost controller isn't sorted yet either lol. That being said, I know it's plumbed it correctly now but I need to await a stupid took to fix the plug connector (putting the proper plug back on even though I could solder or bullet connector the wires in seconds really).

It's overfuelling so the exhausts are very black and I don't really fancy hammering it down a track and it blowing up, hence i'd like a remap doing so I know everything is running ok/correctly before trying. Plus there's a small flat spot in first gear.

When you'd mapped it a couple of years back the timing was drifting and appears out a little. It turned out to the the CAS, the spinny thing on the back was spinning slightly 'wonky' :wack: (it's right now though - on idle at least).

Off topic from TOTB:

There aren't any gear-related differences between 1st and any other gear (although on a factory map, there is a separate top gear map that runs richer with no O2 feedback in the midrange). You won't just have a flat spot in 1st, ECU doesn't work like that.

When I mapped it a couple years back there were issues with the CAS position and the fact the timing had been set without a timing light. It is impossible to correctly map a car where the timing "drifts".

Here is an example of a faulty CAS that didn't throw a code and the owner had no idea there was an issue due to "slack" splines:

Steven Rodgers Faulty CAS.jpg

I've also had a Zed on the dyno where the CAS shaft was so bent the entire RHS front of the engine oscillated back and forth, but this didn't affect the timing as the splines were fine.

Here's the graph from mine.

I know there was the mapping problems due to the timing and lack of boost controller. And now that's why I want to get it mapped again, just so I know it's perfect.

I haven't got a clue what the flat spot in first is. Doesn't seem to happen in any other gear
