Your going to love this one.right.just had a really daft thought. But as i thougjt about it, it started not to sound that darft atall so here goes.

Rihht on my last car.to get the max air into my car i bouhht yhe biggest dan k and n air filtet yhat would poss fit behind my intercooler.a front mount. Now in thinking insted of spending another eigjt hundred pounds on two maffs and aload of electrical stuff to wire up two maffs.can i just use the existing maff and split the pipe into two like how it comes behind the maff and run two seprate air filters further down into cleaner air on both sides..would be nice just to do away with maff altogether. But i bet theres more to it than meets the eye.like how much air to fuel ratio ect. Hey.just a thought.give you somthing to chew on a.

You can run a dual with one maf or you can go down the selin stand alone route with no maf, best speaking to Noz about this one, he will be able to direct you to the best solution

And if the doolz set up was maxed out the air flow and is or can be unreliable more so on idle.then surely it stands to reason just to forget that idea.and just fit the largest maff possible in there so as to keep within the newer higher air perameter figures. Yes its got to be mapped in. But surley only once.

Hudge maff.bigger air filter more free flowing air.or split it up and draw it together like i said.cas space is tight.

I guess it depends on what power you are after, but a dual would intake more air than a large single

Not thinking in gaining much in more power as such.more of the ready available free air to use if called upon. To help spool up as well.just to give the potentail if its there opose to being restritive if you like.

Ok, I've gone through this again, and I think I know what you mean, specifically.

You have described a basic single intake set up. With 2 air filters on a Y-pipe pre-MAF. See this post, made an hour ago: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?179909-Dual-air-intake&p=1853589&viewfull=1#post1853589

In basic terms:

Single filter, single MAF, single intake: Basic set up, standard intake restriction, 600bhp max

Dual filter, single MAF, single intake: Basic set up, standard intake restriction, 600bhp max

Dual filter, dual MAF, dual intake: Advanced set up, low intake restriction, 600bhp max

Dual filter, single MAF, dual intake: Advanced set up, low intake restriction, 1200bhp max

No filter, single blow-through MAF, no intakes: My set up, minimal intake restriction, 2000bhp(?) max (different MAF to stock) :wack:

No, it was purposefully 600bhp for dual MAFs. The only way dual MAFs are implemented is in a voltage adding* format. This is simply to make idling & cruise operation nice & simple. Once the air flow requirement goes north of 600bhp, you can only measure HALF the airflow entering the engine with the stock MAF, hence a maximum voltage readout corresponding to 1200bhp (roughly).

*with an ECU originally mapped for a single intake.

Actually, scratch that. With the Selin you can get over 600bhp using the AVG function and 2 MAFs, which would eliminate any idling issues. All depends on how the ECU is programmed.

but even with averaging, each one is still reading half the airflow... and ECU doubles

With dual MAFs:

Typical ECU single intake tune, ADD setting, 600bhp.

Remapped ECU dual intake tune, AVG setting, 1200bhp. This is the same as a dual intake, single MAF, just costs a lot more.

So is there anyone selling the selin translator for the doolz as z1 sold out

I'm completely lost...

You're not alone on this. I think he just needs to bite the bullet and fit a Rolls Royce RB1-11 jet engine!

[smartassmode] I guess you're referring to the Rolls Royce Spey engine fitted to the BAC 1-11? What an amazing sound! Unless you mean a Rolls Royce RB211 high bypass engine which aren't quite so dramatic and horrifically noisy! [/smartassmode]

Aww 1-11 what a lovely noise. As a young lad skivving off at Gatwick and being deafend by dan air and b cal 1-11s..and Air malawi vc10..much better than the boring quiet engines today
